There are many genres of games that haven’t found their way to the PlayStation Portable yet, but racing certainly isn’t one among them. There are tons of racing titles for the PSP, and MX vs. ATV Unleashed: On the Edge adds to that list. It is an extension of the original MX vs. ATV Unleashed that was released for current gen consoles last year.
The PSP version isn’t as perfect as everyone hoped it would be, but it still has some amazing stuff in it that will keep you gaming for a long, long time. Any Motocross or ATV fan will tell you that this game is amazing to play, and will keep you entertained for a long time to come.
The tracks are a pleasure to ride on, and you’ll find that developers Rainbow studios have captured every part of the real ATV experience and shoved it into a PSP in MX vs. ATV: On the Edge. Tracks are almost the same ones featured on the console version, with the exception of eight custom tracks built for the PSP exclusively.
The game features free roam in the countryside as well as practice circuits, and some amazing races with worthy AI opponents which will get your adrenaline pumping.
On the edge is quite pleasing visually, and has great visuals for a PSP title. Riders and their bikes are animated and modeled quite well, and environment has been detailed quite well, with an exception to the ground, which could have been textured better.
The game faces some problems when it comes to presentation, like poor loading times and lack of any type of auto save feature, and no prompt to manually save either.
The game is provides a lot of fun gameplay and tons of excitement, but the presentation faults will cost. Overall experience when you’re actually playing the game is brilliant, with some great track designs and rider animations. This is a must have title for all motocross and ATV fans alike, and it’s one of the better games in the PSP library of racing games, which isn’t exactly a small one. IF you’re willing to give the game enough time to load, this game is for you.
