Archer Maclean’s Mercury is a charming and quirky game that is addictive. This game can be aptly described as wonderful and challenging and realistically executed with precision. Transition metal mercury can be fun too says Arthur MacLean.

The element of Mercury, the gelatinous center piece, is interestingly presented and as a player you can make it fit into the array of traps and obstacles by twisting it with ease. You have one or more blobs of mercury. Using the analog disc of the PSP, the platform can be tilted in any direction.

As you start the game, you find that there is only one unlocked “world” on offer. This world teaches players how to handle various obstacles and pitfalls you will encounter during the course of the game.

The game features various challenging stages with launch pads, conveyor belts, moving platforms, jagged corners, evil gremlin spheres and electric bolts. Every level in Archer Maclean’s Mercury offers players the challenge of lighting up at least one switch. This requires a lot of luck, skill and concentration. Every level requires you to fulfill objectives such as light up certain number of coloured switches and get your original blob to the end of the level. Every level has a time limit which adds to the excitement and challenge. Time limit ensures the game is on the move and brisk.

The game of mercury handles the controls very well. It is possible for players to maintain a firm grip on the control even as they tilt the world. Movement of the blob is realistic. You can split it by stretching it or squeeze it back to restore normal shape. The camera angles are neat and allow you to keep track of the blob at all times. The only issue when there are multiple blobs is that the camera zooms very far away making it slightly difficult to track them. A good solution would have been incorporating a smaller simultaneous window.

Mercury offers players at least 72 exciting stages and six main worlds with a solid game play. While players find initial levels quite easy, the going gets tough as they reach subsequent worlds.

On the whole, Mercury’s presentation is attractive yet simple. The game offers hours of excitement and enjoyment on your Playstation Portable.
