Xyanide Resurrection is a shoot’em up game that is set in 3D space. Plot unfolds in an interesting animation which mimics the comic book style. It all starts with a far away galaxy that is on the verge of an interstellar war. You play as Drake who is after Aguira the evil witch. She has escaped her execution and you are after her to stop her.
Aguira has the capacity to inflict darkness to the entire space and on your spaceship you travel through territories including enemy territories trying to find her before she inflicts major damage. The animated cut scenes are vivid and tell the story in a good bit of detail.
At times, as you play this game, you feel it is a bit awkward with the player having no clue to his goal. At every level, impressive scenery surrounds the tunnels you fly through. As you fly in Xyanide Resurrection PSP, you are constantly attacked by enemy fighters. Controls are a bit off way too. Though you can turn around 360 degrees and shoot enemies, most often, as you aim to shoot, you find your spaceship going up towards the ceiling making you miss the shot. This is a very frustrating experience.
Things would have been much better with a stationary ship and right/left shoulder buttons for controlling movement horizontally. Aiming should have been assigned to the analogue.
Missions lack in exciting bonus rounds and other aspects to jazz it up. There is no spark in the levels. On the brighter side, the ships look very realistic and attractive. Visuals are great with environments looking very inviting and detailed. It is exciting to see realistic looking asteroids and planets coming towards you in this space game on the Playstation Portable. Sound and music add to the excellent visuals effectively complementing it.
Even the multiplayer mode of this game plays quite similar and is not overly entertaining. With a lot of great visuals and music gone into this game, Xyanide Resurrection topples with its bad controls and gameplay. It has all the potential which has not been tapped effectively by its makers Playlogic. It could have been handled much better.
