The latest addition to the well-known Tenchu series the ‘Time of Assassins’ puts together the finest elements of this classic game in a re-mastered version. In this version published by Sega the graphics and detailing have been enhanced and new features have been incorporated to engage you in long hours of stealthily ending your enemies.
This version has a more in-depth story and brings back the characters Rikimaru, Ayame, Rin, and Tessyu. As usual the game involves spying on enemies and killing them while they are unaware. Stealth maneuvers form the primary element of the Tenchu - Time of the Assassins PSP game. Icons on the screen light up to show you when an enemy is aware of your presence. The combat requires a high level of skill and responsiveness. Each of these characters has a unique storyline and each story has brand new levels and missions. The fifth new character needs to be unlocked through completion of certain levels. The most significant development is the option of playing for the rival side as Onkiage, the evil servant of Lord Mei-oh. It also features 50 independent campaigns that can be played after successfully completing the single player mode. It has the famous scene editor that allows you to create your own levels with a variety of enemies to combat. The co-operative and multiplayer modes allow you to play with other players through a wireless LAN or a USB cable.
The game developers should have focused on the camera work that seems shoddy at times. Apart from the area where the actual mission takes place most of the environment is completely lackluster and could have definitely used more detailing. Nonetheless the stealth combat that propelled the game to success is definitely engrossing while the game editor that enables you to create your own scenes is an exciting feature. Move through the murky shadows in the dead of the night and silently lay your enemies to rest in this PlayStation Portable game.
