The PlayStation is one of the most demanded gaming consoles available in the market. The PlayStation is manufactured by Sony which is one of the biggest companies that is engaged in producing world class home entertainment devices. The Sony PlayStation history dates back to 1991 when most of us only knew some 8 and 32 Bit gaming consoles. Nintendo actually wanted to incorporate a CD-ROM in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. After several discussions Sony agreed to create the PlayStation that could be connect to Nintendo’s console.

But both companies parted ways soon and Sony kept developing PlayStation. In the year 1992 both Sony and Nintendo again joined to develop the PlayStation. But again they parted ways soon after. Hence Sony was left with a CD-ROM video game console add on. Then they started making a complete gaming console on their own, which would eventually lead to the whole successful series of Sony consoles. Finally in the year 1994 Sony PlayStation was first released in Japan. It became a huge success as thousands of buyers were ready to spend their hard earned money on it. Huge advertising campaigns were carried out all over the world so that the PlayStation becomes a success worldwide. Then on September 1995 it was launched in America and various other parts of the world.

Sony being a newbie had a hold on the gaming industry all over the world. To date more than 50 million units of the PlayStation has been sold worldwide, with the PS3 accounting for 20 million, which is incredibly impressive. The PlayStation is still evolving and now it is taking games to an all new level.
