PSP had a typical ‘rags to riches story” while it was first mocked at when launched, it has grown to a stage with a cult following and surely surpasses Nintendo’s offerings like the DS lite and the Wii version. Today it stands unbeaten and continues to hit the sales registers non-stop, with growth at an awesome rate of 85% in the US alone.
Certain Games like Grand Theft Auto have become an icon in the gaming community to be played on the PSP and this device now also enjoys immense support and admiration from a self-made community of PSP homebrews, fans, developers, related service providers and other stake-holders.
But what’s new? What might be in store for the PSP in 2008? There have been talks about introducing more peripherals and even bundling a few games. Rumors state that some of the popular Japanese games would be made “US only”. This year has already witnessed the introduction of GPS service to the PSP and new firmware like 3 X series has already been announced.
The PSP is now also enabled with Sky TV networks in order to streamline video-on demand or content-on demand directly on to your PSP. This is in addition to scores of games still being developed for the nifty game player.
More and more PSP and PlayStation 3 cross functionality is planned – especially as PS3’s install base grows – and “significant marketing” will be put behind educating consumers concerning PSP Remote Play.
If you ask me, it is never-ending. The thing about PSP is that it never fails to amaze me. There is something or the other going on about it and it might be surprising if nothing is mentioned or nothing noteworthy comes up.
PSP rocks and 2008 should sound like a rocking year for it, alright.
