Skate Park City wants to (and should) inherit Tony Hawk

There is really something going on right now in the skating market. The virtual skating market is doing just as well, especially for people who want to experience all the action of Tony Hawk’s Indy 900, but aren’t fans of broken legs.

Tony Hawk isn’t even the only option in this arena anymore either, except of course for the PSP. Even the last Tony Hawk game released for the PSP, Project 8, is already over a year old. But now the low budget game publisher Midas wants to end the skating drought and come out with Skate Park City in just over a month.

A few screenshots are available on the publisher’s website and they definitely have me craving for more. One special highlight is how the game consciously divorces itself from realism. This means: UFOs, air mines, and a sick story. Virus, the “crazy skater-hater”, has kidnapped some of your skater pals who need to be freed. There are 30 different tricks, an open world for skating or flying, and even an online multiplayer mode to help you accomplish this. And everything takes place in an environment that’s not exactly breathtaking, but definitely pretty nice. We can’t make any judgements in terms of the controls just yet, but it is safe to say the developers won’t try anything completely revolutionary. The game should cost £20 in the UK, so around 40 dollars for us.
