Sony Computer Entertainment, along with game developer Shift, has launched the game called Ape Escape Academy exclusively for the PSP. It is a huge collection of 45 mini-games and can be played by a maximum of 4 players at a time.

The player assumes the role of the monkey who works for Specter. The gamer has to graduate from junior class to senior class by passing each mini game and fulfilling the criteria for each class. There are 9 mini games to complete in each class. In Ape Academy (PSP), the gamer gets rewarded with an X if he fails to meet the criteria and with an O if he successfully meets it. There are a certain number of lines which need to be crossed by the gamer to pass each class wherein each line is made up of 3 vertical/horizontal/diagonal X’s or O’s. There are review lessons in the offering for those gamers who manage to meet all the requirements. The division of the mini games has been done in 4 parts, including Mind, Body, Tech and Special.

Mind: the Mind part has been further divided into 3 parts.

a) Ask Darwin: In this game, the gamer has to answer all the questions presented in front of him. Every question has 4 answers out of which only one is correct.
b) Banana Guardian: The protection of a big banana is the task of the gamer and the ‘bananarang’, is at his disposal to fend off other monkeys.
c) Salvage: The player has to use the direction buttons to move the boat.

Body: It has also been divided into 3 parts.

a) Hammer Throw: The gamer has to wind up a shot and press the circle button to release the throw.
b) Bridgeway to Bananas: A group of monkeys balance each other vertically and have to reach their goal which on the right side of the screen.
c) Monkey Soccer: The gamer has to play a game of soccer against the computer.

Tech: Just like the above two, this has also been cut into 3 parts.

a) Mon Quixote: The player has been given a shield to protect himself and has to fend off arrows directed towards him using the analog nub. The arrows come down from the sky in different speeds.
b) Bombabooner: Bombs are thrown with the gamer as the target. The bombs have to be caught and handed over to the side.
c) Monkey Bowling: The gamer has to target 10 monkeys by rolling a ball. To get a Strike, all the monkeys have to be hit.

Special: The gamer has to face another monkey with both possessing a dice. The dice is rolled and the one who acts faster and gets a bigger score will have the option to attack.

The game is a bit child like and will go down well with children. It’s an overall nice game, with loads of fun and excitement.
