Time for a Showdown on your PSP

Based on the famous children’s cartoon with the same name, Xiaolin Showdown is a fun game targeted at children who love fiction when served with a dose of action. It can be placed in the same league as the Power Puff Girls, another cartoon series which became a huge hit and was eventually developed into a game.

The game features conventional kung-fu and some impressive action which makes it look as if it was inspired from the cartoon Dragon Ball Z. The gamer starts Xiaolin Showdown (PSP) by playing one of the four temperamental monks who train in the academy: the aggressive Omi, the cocky Raimundo, the fearless Kimiko and the Goliath Clay. When playing alone, the gamer will be accompanied by the other three players who will be controlled by the computer. A column of light is placed on the head of a character that the computer allots you to begin the game with, and it becomes impossible to change characters once it is locked.

Two attack buttons are at the gamer’s service which he can use to fight. The gamer travels to a huge number of arena shaped environments and will confront the henchmen sent by Jack Spicer, the boy-genius with evil intentions. The enemy robots keep coming to spoil the party and the gamer can punch and kick whoever comes in the way of his quest. New objects keep appearing in almost every scene, so that things don’t get monotonous and perhaps the only flaw in the whole game is that the player’s character never runs out of death. Yes, this might seem unbelievable but is actually true.

The environments are aesthetically designed to make the game look adventurous and the combat sequences show that they have been designed under an expert’s surveillance.

The game fails to really distinguish itself from other kung-fu action oriented titles, but fans of Dragon Ball Z cartoons will probably have fun with it.
