The famous Capcom Co. Ltd. game developing and publishing company based in Japan has carved a niche for itself in the field of video games. Founded in 1979 with the name of Japan Capsule Computers, the firm has devoted its services to the development of video games and other electronic machines.

In the past few years, Capcom has created some video games which have been some of the highest selling and longest running titles in history. Games like Street Fighter, Mega Man and Resident Evil have all been gigantic hits on either Nintendo or PlayStation consoles. Some of these successful titles have even made their way to the PSP, such as MegaMan Maverick Hunter X (PSP). Following the success of the game Resident Evil, a motion picture was made with the same name which was followed by two sequels. Capcom went into partnership with Microsoft to make the game Dead Rising, exclusively for the latter’s brainchild, the Xbox 360.

Caption Commando is the original mascot of Capcom who dons a futuristic armor of an untraced origin. His name has played a very instrumental part in the derivation of the CapCom. He has made several appearances in manuals and on the back covers of the early NES games released by the company. Many storylines prepared by the firm have included Captain Commando. But of late, Mega Man has been given the torch of being the company’s official mascot because of the popularity of the character.

The game developing department of CapCom is headed by the CapCom Production Studio. The company also owns other subsidiaries and related corporations like CapCom USA Inc., CapCom Studio 8, CapCom Asia Co., which are located in parts of America, South Asia, Europe and Australia.

The reputation that precedes the company ensures that it gets good coverage from the media whenever it is about to release a game. Many games developed by CapCom have actually been made into feature films, including both Street Fighter and Resident Evil. Devil May Cry and Clock Tower are two other CapCom games that are in the process of being converted into movies.
