After the success of Dracula X, Konami comes out with Symphony of the Night from the Castlevania series which takes the successful franchise even further. Scheduled four years after the release of its prequel, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night takes the genre of horror in video games to a new level. The game depicts the main protagonist who, unlike his predecessors, is not a sloppy Belmont. The shocking element included in the story is that the hero himself is the offspring of Dracula. The gamer has to explore the castle of Dracula and has to unearth the reason behind the mysterious disappearance of the hero of the previous installment, Richter Belmont.

The Symphony of the Night episode is based on the Castlevania (PS1) classic version. Monsters will keep intercepting the gamer’s path in finding answers and the gamer can slay them with the help of some weapons, different from the previous releases in the franchise. The gamer gains experience when he kills enemies and Alucard levels go up with the increase in attributes. The gamer gets a chance to learn contrasting skills while executing different movements on the gamepad. A lot of magic items keep appearing throughout the game which the player can use to enhance their combat effectiveness.

One of the most dazzling features of the game is the map system, a relatively new feature which was absent in the prequels. It can be seen anytime when the gamer presses the select button. Some of the passages remain unlocked until the gamer progresses ahead and can be opened only in the later stages. Certain places cannot be visited until the gamer finds Alucards’ three souls for transformation including Mist, Bat and Wolf.

The usage of graphics is spectacular and the background score is a perfect fit for the horror theme. All sequences give a very vibrant look as the enemies seem to be crafted from a horror movie and the backgrounds will make the gamer feel as if he is in a haunted castle. The game has all the ingredients to be a huge hit amongst all horror fanatics. A must buy if you are in love with Dracula or the Castlevania series.
