Ridge Racer is a very fine game that offers a combination of arcade racing and impeccable visuals. It also multiplayer (PSP to PSP connectivity), making a great game to play against friends. This game is based on extremely fast racing with winding and twisting tracks and insane slides. The action is as fast-paced is it comes, but fortunately the intuitive controls also make it very easy to just jump in and start playing.
As you progress through various levels in the game, you get access to more powerful and improved cars. One of the best, and most critical, parts is that the cars do not get damaged at all. Given the frantic pace and intensity of the racing, this is a good thing because otherwise your car would likely be immediately crushed to pieces. Ridge Racer 2’s graphics are excellent, as is the details of the car models and race tracks. The game’s soundtrack features both techno and the disco beats to keep your adrenaline pumping, and a commentator is also provided to give an update after the completion of each game.
Ridge Racer 2 is basically the same as Ridge Racer 1, but with additional features like nine new tracks, eight new cars, twelve new songs and apparently three new game modes. A time limit has also been introduced in this new version. There are a total of sixty two cars that you can race on twenty one tracks (or 42 tracks if you consider that you can race on the reverse tracks as well).
Ridge Racer 2 is quite a decent racing game, with some very intense racing action. The player gets a real arcade style gaming experience. Car racing video games have always been popular and the PSP is no exception. Any fan of fast-paced arcade racing will do well to pick up this handheld title.
