“Me and My Katamari” has the potential to capture every heart in the gaming world. The game’s title might sound a little strange, but it actually entails entertainment and excitement. The game takes you on a joy ride with the King of the Cosmos to meet intergalactic royalty.
The game’s protagonist and lead character is the named the King of all Cosmos who takes it easy when not drunk or embarking on an intergalactic trip. In the beginning King of all Cosmos and his family are out on vacation and are having a little beach blanket fun. The King unknowingly becomes too rambunctious for the inhabitants of a small chain of islands nearby. The tidal wave caused by the King’s rambunctious actions then completely wipes those islands off the map. After realizing his mistake, the benevolent monarch assigns his son with the responsibility of finding the matter needed to construct new islands. This whole introduction is all done in one cinematic sequence.
As the player you assume the role of the prince tasked with rebuilding the mistakenly annihilated islands. Your first job in Me & My Katamari (PSP) is to collect a round, and colorful chew toy. To collect these objects you must simply role over them. But most of the objects are actually too large for your Katamari to roll over immediately, and instead you have to gather the smaller ones first, that will eventually increase your Katamari size. You follow a time limit in every stage as well. The island inhabitants will also assist you and make sure you are clear about what to collect. You have to be specific about collecting various items such as fast items, cold items, sweet items, beautiful items etc. At the end your score will be adversely affected by your performance in collecting each type of item. It might sound a bit strange, the gameplay is actually pretty fun and addicting.
