Whenever we hear Sonic the first word that strikes our mind is velocity and unstoppable speed. We always associate these traits with the super fast blue hedgehog who has already earned his rightful place in the video gaming hall of fame. Sonic his known for his super fast running, and we can therefore expect every Sonic game to be very fast paced. Sonic Rivals for the PSP is no different, as it brings the same beloved Sonic world and characters to the PSP.
All of the same characters from the Sonic series make an appearance in Sonic Rivals and you’ll get to see Sonic face off against Dr. Eggman again. This time around the villain Dr. Eggman has invented a special image capturing device, which captures the images of people and turns them into trading cards. Unfortunately, Dr. Eggman turns Sonic’s friends Tails and Amy into cards and now Sonic has to rescue them. You have to pass through six distinct worlds and confront a handful of bosses before facing Dr. Eggman in the finale.
There is a twist in the game, because Sonic isn’t the only one who wants a piece of that mad scientist; Knuckles, Shadow and Silver want to get at him too. So here in Sonic Rivals (PSP) the gameplay turns into a race competition to see who’ll get the mad scientist first. This exciting and exhilarating gameplay adds a new element of speed and pressure to the already fast-paced Sonic games.
Most out of the six worlds consist of two acts and one boss battle. The distinct areas which you’ll explore in the title include the Green Hill area, theme parked area, high tech laboratory etc. You need to progress from left to right and cross the finish line first in the typical Sonic manner. All the standard gigantic loops, corkscrews, speed boosters, and spring-loaded platforms are also present. While we are still waiting for a next generation Sonic game to truly to justice to the legendary series, it must be said that Sonic Rivals still offers some very enjoyable and classic gameplay.
