Fun with Penguins: Surf’s Up on the PSP

Our beloved PSP already has countless movie inspired games among its repertoire, so why not include a few more. The latest movie turned title is the game called Surf’s Up, which is based on the movie Surf’s Up.

Despite the name, it is not actually a straightforward surfing game per se; instead it is more of a penguin/surf/race game. Just like the movie, Surf’s Up (PSP) features cute and naughty penguins racing against each other. These notorious creatures are not engaged in common automobile racing. Instead they’re competing with each other riding atop surfboards. The overall situation is that you’re required to accomplish laps surrounded with a full course of obstacles, pads, turbo, and jump ramps. During the race some weapon boxes will assist you in attaining first place in the competition. These weapon boxes are scattered around tracks, and can be of great assistance to you if you get them. In this manner, the game is very similar to other racing games like Mario Kart or Diddy Kong racing.

The penguin game ranks quite well in the graphics department too. The 3D graphics are both attracting and attention grabbing; especially the adorably modeled penguins. The music is mostly drawn from the movie’s soundtrack, and it accompanies the action nicely.

Obviously, since your character is on a surfboard, the whole race course environment is on water, in either an ocean or river. Your character will constantly bounce whenever his boogie board touches a wave. In each and every course you’ll come across certain shortcuts and also chances to boost, grind, and splash down from a great height. The single player championship mode consists of five meets with four courses each, for a grand total of 20 races. The whole title will take approximately 20 hours to finish, since each race is over in about 5 minutes.
