A game of Bowling is not the usual type of sports game you might find on a gaming console. For many people, it actually lacks an element of surprise and is not something that makes their heart jump in excitement. These factors notwithstanding, there are people who would not mind to indulge themselves in a game of virtual bowling. What attracts most of us to this game, is its lazy elegance and the fact that it requires a great deal of finesse to achieve positive results. The new bowling game by Brunswick, Brunswick Pro Bowling can be termed a pretty decent attempt by the producers to bring this beautiful game to your PSPs. Noticeable positive aspects include the game’s simple and smooth game flow, leaving the player bereft of any unnecessary distractions.

You can kick start the game’s proceedings by either opting for a career at a league night or you can simply bowl. The second option is pretty straight forward and not that exciting. The first option, on the other hand, sends you into the more interesting realm of professional bowling. You will, however, get distracted at the beginning as you have to design your character, choose genders, hairstyle, and the like before, finally being ready to take on your computer generated rivals. You have to defeat your opponent’s in a three-game competition to progress. Your wins will be reflected on your on-screen character, who will consequently earn money and reputation. He can use his money to improve attributes like accuracy, stamina and arm strength, giving the player a distinct edge over opponents in this grueling competition. What really will intrigue is the fact that you can learn from your mistakes and use a different approach the next time, say a different angle, a slight variation in strength, etc. Of course, in Brunswick Pro Bowling for the PSP, the actual bowling mechanics are not as interesting as with the Wii version, where everything is based on your actual movement. But you do actually get a real high when you successfully make a strike and even more so when you manage to pick up spares, which is pretty difficult in the context of the game.

The game however tires you out rather quickly with its endless repetitions and lack of flexibility. The best part of the game is undoubtedly its smartly and lovingly crafted balls and pin animations.
