Well, this is for all PSP and online multiplayer fans. Would you want Sony to launch MMOGs, a.k.a. Massively Multiplayer Online Games, for the PSP? Well, I think everybody will be excited if the company decides to do so, and we could sure use the new games. Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley revealed that the Sony is considering launching MMOs for PSP. He said, “I think the PSP is something that we’re definitely looking at; 34 million [sold] worldwide really opens your eyes, and they’re all connected. We started to get very interested in [the PSP] when we switched over from Sony Pictures to Sony Computer Entertainment back in April and as we’ve kind of got our heads up looking around the world within Sony Computer Entertainment, we’re really starting to see a big push for PSP. We think it’s a world-class device… In the future, we see full MMOs that are designed for the PSP.”
Before launching the new fully functional MMOs the company is looking forward to integrate the existing online game titles with the handheld. Of course, it might be quite awhile before we ever see a game like World of Warcraft for the PSP. Smedley said that “Maybe one way to do it: In free realms, you could have a pet-training system that literally connects to our online gaming where you can mess around with your pet.” “Another way to do it might be to give them mini-games that they can do on the PSP when sitting at a bus stop. You’re sitting there leveling up your character, you log in at home when you’re on Wi-Fi, and all of sudden your character has leveled up. We think those kinds of experiences are very possible”, he added.
Well, this all will be very astonishing and I personally will be more than happy to compete online with a large number of other gamers on my PSP. If this does come to pass, then it will certainly mark a turning point in the PSP’s history and handhelds in general.
