Capcom is well known as the king and founder of fast paced animated fighting games. Their start in Street Fighter has expanded to countless other arcade fighting titles. Two of these star fighting titles, Power Stone and Power Stone 2, have now been reunited into one classic game for the PSP: Power Stone Collection.

All the characters from the previous games are included. These include the dashing biplane pilot (Falcon), the kung fu disciple (Wang Tang), the top knotted Samurai (Ryoma), Arabian Princes (Rouge) and the native American called Galuda. Sometimes the characters and dynamics in Power Stone Collection (PSP) come off as completely bizarre, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Obviously Power Stone is a game in which to characters fight against each other until one wins. Each character is stuffed with similar abilities, including simple melee attacks, grappling abilities, and also the ability to pick up and throw environmental items. Weapons and power ups, such as Gatling guns, giant hammers, Molotov cocktails, bazookas, baseball bats, and swords are regularly available in the arena.

Each arena varies in sizes and shapes, and comes with its own unique environmental hazards, which have an effect on the fighting. But the most interesting and exciting elements of the title are its power stones. As you start off there’s only a single power stone in your possession and landing an attack on the enemy successfully will knock it out of them. Three power stone collections will lead to the triggering of the transformation effect. This will result in temporarily changing your player’s costume and imbuing them with incredible powers. In terms of graphics and sound the title is superb. If you are a fan of Capcom and wacky fighting games, then this could be for you.
