Sid Meier’s Pirates! It’s one of the most awesome games to be released on the PSP. It sat proudly at number 6 in IGN’s Top 100 games of all time. The game is actually a remake of the original Pirates! Gold, which was released for the PC in 1993, and later released as Sid Meier’s Pirates! For the Xbox. It has now made its way to the PlayStation Portable as Sid Meier’s Pirates! Live the Life.

The game is what a gamer would truly call a classic. For the first timers, I must say that you have missed out on one of the nicest, most open- ended sandbox game of all time. Here’s the basic rundown of the Sid Meier’s Pirates! PSP version. In career mode, you start by choosing your allegiance, difficulty and year of starting. You can choose to side with the French, Dutch, Spanish or English. Your standing towards each country will change over time, as you perform actions and tasks.

Whenever you attack someone, your standing with the enemy’s country will lower while the standing with your own will increase, and you’ll be rewarded greatly.

If you get on a country’s bad side, you’ll face attacks from their ships, your ship routes may be blocked, or you might even be denied entry into some towns. If you attack townspeople and anger them enough, they might even open fire at you every time you approach them.

Possibly the most awesome feature of the game is Town Ownership. Ownership of towns can change over time, with Indians or rogue pirates taking over or looting towns. You can also take over towns for your country.

The game doesn’t revolve around only battles either. You can start trades and make some money. You can also sell the loot that you get off other ships to make more cash. You might even get a treasure map, and have a little adventure of your own. Keeping your crew happy is also a major part of the game, as they do all the work for you.

Overall, Sid Meier’s Pirates! Is one of the most exciting titles for the PSP, letting you live life as a true pirate in all ways. It’s a great game, and a must have for all PSP enthusiasts.
