The games for the PlayStation Portable have multiplied into many kinds and genres. But even now, the gamers keep looking something new and different. The true feeling of a game comes to the gamers’ mind only when he plays the game of the right kind. A game that was initially designed for a different console would hold good for the PSP. But the initial feeling would sometimes make the gamer loose interest. If that is the case, the gamers would be missing something considerable, when it comes to the ‘Mytran Wars’.
As the name goes, the appearance of the game is slightly old. The graphics and the visual features are customized to suit the theme of the game. A gamer who is looking for a happy world of advance wars would not find this game appealing. Mytran Wars PSP has its theme concentrated on a war that is led by a single player force. The camera is located at an elevated level, which could be rotated using the analog nub. The playing field is grid based and different square type grids are available as options. The various square grids offer various defensive characteristics like woodland, open, mountain etc to strengthen the game modes. Another feature of the game is the Fog of War. This feature speaks about the way the orders of unit attacks are selected. The graphics of the game-play is enjoyable. It does not annoy the players and is well aligned with the story line.
Unlike the usual war games, the commanders are directly involved in the battles. The commanders would lead their team against the enemy forces and their death would be the end of the game. Even though the game is dependant on the survival of the characters, some characters in the game are simply expendable, while the others must be retained to continue the story. As the game advances, the player gets both money and research points. The research points could be put into use to bring some new components into the game’s part shop. The game is aimed at the hardcore gamers and would certainly be challenging to the beginners.

The ‘Bliss Island’ is a game from Codemasters released for the Xbox, PSP, PC and Nintendo. The game sounds quite blissful by its title, but in reality there is nothing like that in the game. It is a quite dull game which does not provide the necessary fun and excitement. The plot of the game does not demand any hard work from the player. There is no necessity for application of logical reasoning or complex calculations. This is a simple game that has not been expressed properly.
This is a single player game, and is categorized as ‘adventure‘. The game takes the players through a series of adventures through a handful of mini games. These mini games are further broken down into many stages. The mini games include dull versions of most of the free games available over the web. The games in Bliss Island are complete with a text introduction and some fireworks at the end of each of the three levels of difficulty. These mini games could also be individually tackled in a challenge mode.
The only character that creates a connection between these mini games is called ‘Zwooph’. It is a mythical creature, which shoots puffs of air to make clouds. Each mini game in the series makes use of this air jet concept and some physics to create puzzles and basic gameplay. Out of all the mini games, it is the ‘Cave Adventures’ that could be much appealing to the players. It is in fact more similar to the famous ‘helicopter flash game’, but it is the only bright spot in the Bliss Island.
The graphics that are used for the action sequences and the menus are not attractive. The textures used in the game are of low resolution and fails to provide the HD quality. It is made clear that Bliss Island was targeting the casual market with its simple design and bright visuals. With mini games such as the Soccer, a brick invaders game and a race to collect fruit, Bliss Island could be considered as a collection of simple games assembled together by a character.

As a charming RPG, Popolocrois is a game to be enjoyed by all and at all times. Published by Agetec and developed by G-Artists, this adventure game is based on a funny and wacky theme. The great art work and amiable characters that make up the simple gameplay are quite welcoming. You can also call this PSP game an interesting amalgamation of two previous games in the series.
The story revolves around the 10-year old Prince Pietro, whose adventure is aimed at releasing his mother from an evil spell. This spell has sent his mother to a state of eternal sleep. In his quest to bring back his mother, the brave little prince comes across a witch called Narcia, along with some other folks. Jointly, these people make a team to fight hurdles in the form of hazardous creatures they encounter on their journey. In the beginning of the game Pietro is only 10, but by the end of the game, he turns 15. Now, the Prince needs to defeat an ominous demon to free his mother, whose soul is shut in a dark world. This was all about the first half of Popolocrois (PSP). The second half features a 15 year old Pietro, struggling to save his father from the evil brute that is a great threat to the entire kingdom. The simple and smooth flow of the game allows you to play the game over a longer period, say a week or even a month. The gameplay is equally simple: first initiating missions and then working for their achievement.
The delightful presentation of the game offers the feel of going through a children’s story book. It is a perfect game for anyone wishing to enter the RPG world, on account of its uncomplicated and interactive mode. Apart from the audio portion, the sound is also pretty commendable, and it compliments the overall effect of Pietro’s story. The game proves that simplicity blended with wit can do wonders.

The name Silent Hill depicts a foggy town, walls dripping with blood and cryptic dialogues. Yes, it include all of these aspects. The horror game relies on a franchise hallmark that is already eight years old. This Silent Hill PSP version contains many similarities with previous titles, but still manages to deliver a largely scary and haunting adventure.
In this version you’ll roam and run across the town as Travis Grady. You’ll surely be reminded of previous Silent Hill titles with the murky atmosphere and mysterious dialogue. In fact, the handheld version relies heavily on nostalgia from previous games, and does little to innovate the true and tried Silent Hill formula. While playing the game in the middle of the town as Travis, you should be careful to avoid hitting the little girl. If you have tried other Silent Hill games then you can easily predict who she might be. The plot actually lacks some sense because no reason is given for why Travis even visited Silent Hill to begin with.
This amended version actually fills in missing pieces to the series lore as you’ll get a chance to explore a few familiar locations. From a third person’s view you’ll be able to check out Travis in the town between destinations. Silent Hill: Origins (PSP) engages you in solving puzzles which are further entangled in other puzzles. Your random encounters with strange characters are not as scary as it would have been on a large television screen in a dark room, but nonetheless as scary as it gets for a handheld game. You’ll definitely enjoy your encounter with monstrous oddities some new and some familiar.
Of course, what would the horror game be without its combat element? The Melee is as disappointing as it was in previous titles; full of blood and screams but with the same monotony. In other additional combat scenes you will have the added pleasure of using melee weapons. To bash you enemies you can grab the television, radio or hospital stand. Silent Hill fans might want to check this one out, even though the series is much better on actual game consoles.

Fading Shadows is without doubt an innovative concept, which does have its fair share of flaws, but is nonetheless a quality piece of entertainment. Instead of having numerous characters to give you company, you play a sole solitary adventurer. On your adventure you will not encounter someone like Master Gardal or any of his vile accomplices either. Instead, there is only you, the orb, and the environmental puzzles and hazards provided by each of the game’s levels. What is interesting though, is that you do not directly control the orb, while navigating the swath of hazards that confront you. Rather, you end up controlling a pillar of light that the orb happens to follow. The orb is significant in the sense that it contains the soul of the boy whose coming was foretold ages ago, and is supposed to save the currently ruined Kingdom.
You will be fascinated to know that the intensity of the light plays a crucial role in the game. Moreover, you will have to carefully pay attention to the light intensity to have any hope of progressing through the game’s levels. Although this might seem somewhat odd, this feature is actually the game’s most appealing aspect and you can easily get acquainted with it as the game progresses. To add to the surprise element in Fading Shadows (PSP), the orb can assume three different states which enable it to successfully navigate the continuous obstacles. You need to be precise in selecting the most appropriate state in a particular situation, otherwise it will not have the desired effect. A metallic state is more likely to rust in water, but it can withstand even the most focused beam. Likewise, a glass orb is immune from water but is easily shattered by a focused beam.
With all its good qualities, the game still has some noticeable drawbacks. One problematic point is its unorthodox control scheme makes it quite difficult to perform diabolical platform-jumping sequences which require a lot of speed and precision. To add to that, in the later stages the emphasis on timed elements, like gates that stay open only for a brief period, puts too much pressure on you and eventually sucks the pleasure out of the title. But if you can overcome these frustrating flaws then you will be pleased with a unique and cool action adventure title.

The player is all by himself and has to decide where to go and what to do. It practically takes hours to figure out all the complicated puzzles and slowly unravel the island’s secrets. A lot of puzzles have to be first solved before progressing up the levels.

You will constantly be kept second guessing until the conclusive stage, where all the information you gathered from exploring various environments will finally make sense and fall in place. In Myst (PSP) you enter a unique setting where there are no living beings or instructions to be followed; you must simply venture alone in the world of mist. Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure is another action adventure sensation. The game simply assures classy entertainment with suspense filled adventure. Its gameplay has been kept distinct, to set it apart from other titles.
It actually narrates the story of Parin (a young girl) whose parents went for an adventurous trip leaving her alone with grandpa. Her grandpa is the mayor of the mining community and she was the only child in the town. In the opposite direction of the village there’s a monstrous community brewing, of which the villagers are unaware. And Parin somehow visits the monster’s village where she comes to know that the monster world is in danger and then the excitement begins.
One tremendous aspect of the game is the audio. The background music and sound effects are so apt that you automatically get sucked it. Just like other successful PSP title’s, including Rengoku 2 - The Stairway to H.E.A.V.E.N., this one’s Japanese influence is unmistakable, especially in terms of the character artwork. Character voiceovers are also very well done and acted. Apart from the spectacular sound, the title also involves dazzling and attractive graphics. But there’s only significant problem with the game, and that is the two dimensional or flat background graphics.
The game involves very accessible RPG elements which are impressive and promising at the same time. Throughout the game you’ll be engaged in collecting the tokens by busting the enemies and the jars with an aim to buy more pieces. The pieces include a bandanna which makes your attack more drastic and effective, and a monkey who leverages more tokens from the drilled pieces. You’ll be able to collect these useful junk from dispersed trash cans and also from vanquished enemies. The title is filled with environmental puzzles, while the enemies you’ll encounter appear like they have turned up just to get stabbed. The gameplay is therefore admittedly somewhat lacking, but the excellent and immersive environment does help to negate these flaws.

Our beloved PSP portable always gives us surprises. Not only by launching brand new companions in the forms of accessories, but also with its exciting games. There’s a title available in PSP which is damn exhilarating. We are talking about the title Death Jr. II: Root of Evil.
The game might not be the most spectacular and thrilling thing on the market, but it nonetheless possesses some attention grabbing and unique aspects. There’s also a comic series which is based on the characters involved in the game. Death Jr. 2 - Root of Evil (PSP) begins in a situation where a giant female creature named Furi, whose motive is to take over the world, captures Death Sr. Then attention turns Death Sr. and his beloved girlfriend (Pandora), who have accidentally broken the Cocon of Furi. They are actually aware of the fact that their mistake will make sudden changes to the world. That’s why set off to right their wrong with the help of their wacky friends.
In the beginning (in PSP version) you have to decide whether you want to play as Death Jr. or Pandora as once you start you cannot switch characters. If your friend also possesses the game, then you can play cooperatively as co-op play is supported. Most of the action and movements of both Death Jr. and Pandora are quite similar. Both can utilize their weapons to swing from hooks and can also use them as zip lines. One thing which is not admirable is that the guns are weak and difficult to aim. There’s also an auto aim option but it’s poorly implemented. But the graphics are WOW… as most of the levels are creatively designed which give a pulsating feel to the gamer. These excellent graphics are accompanied by a complementary audio which is awesome and suits the game environment perfectly. If you are looking for something new then it’s worth taking a look at this title, otherwise there are better games out there.
