Totally Games in collaboration with gaming giants SEGA have come out with their latest gaming venture called Alien Syndrome, this time for the PSP. The game’s story is set in the future where traveling in space ever present and accessible. Something happens on a space station situated on a distant planet, and communication is lost as a result. The investigation is handed over to Aileen Harding who finds out that the one responsible for all the chaos is the ‘Alien Syndrome’. She comes to the decision that she has to personally remove this thing in order to solve the problem.
The game is full of action and the characters have to be turned in the direction where the players wish them to shoot. There are 40 levels you need to complete to finish the game, including 5 bosses accompanied by 15 mini-bosses. An electric robotic drone gives the players some company and can also be used as storage space for items and a back-up for the main protagonist. Players have the freedom customize their character in-game and then explore different strategies. There are 80 ballistic weapons which Harding can make use of during the fights. The droid gives the gamer superb company in fending off the enemies. In Alien Syndrome (PSP) the player is also provided with a life meter and an energy meter which keeps refilling all the time for complete shield power. The analog stick on the PSP handles both the movement and aiming. Also, when a ranged weapon is used for firing, then the player automatically gets locked into the direction which he is facing.
The graphics used in the game by the developers are somewhat similar to others but the levels are pretty enjoyable. The charming drone that never leaves you alone is one the game’s most underrated features. All in all a decent effort by Totally Games and SEGA in bringing this space adventure to the PSP, and worth a second look.
