Is PSP 3000 really low on Battery Life?

Posted on Sep 12, 2008 07:15:21 AM

Since the Sony has announced the next version of its PSP console, the PSP 3000, there has been a lot of controversy regarding its performance and capabilities. There is no doubt the new PSP 3000 has a great screen resolution with anti-glare technology and it supports non progressive, non-HD televisions as well, but when it comes to battery life, questions arise whether its worth purchasing or not. This confusion arose because of the two contradictory statements made by John Koller himself, who is the Director of Hardware Marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment, America.

Initially, Koller said that as the PSP 3000 has an enhanced LCD display in terms of resolution, brightness, contrast and color, it is natural that it will drain out the battery more quickly. According to him the new and enhanced features of PSP 3000 need more battery power than the old PSP Slim n Lite. However, this seems to be logical also. If the PSP fans want something better then they have to bear some additional costs. That may be in the form of the console’s price or battery consumption. If this is the case, then it might make purchasing accessories to increase the battery life, like the Trust PSP Battery Pack, a good idea. According to Koller, the battery life of the new PSP will go down by half an hour. He said that, “There’s a little bit of a larger power draw with the brighter screen. The battery that comes with the PSP-3000 will last about three-and-a-half to four hours.”

But now he is admitting that the Sony’s engineers in Japan are working on this issue and will optimize the battery of the PSP 3000 so that it gives the same amount of entertainment juice as the old PSP. According to his new statement, the PSP 3000 will last for four to six hours while playing games on it and four to five hours if used for watching UMD movies. Still some people say that it is impossible for the gadget to have the same amount of stamina without compromising the display quality. Whether the new PSP’s battery will be a problem or not, remains to be seen.

No More Extended Battery Kit for Sony’s Play Station Portable

Posted on Aug 13, 2008 08:36:44 AM

Sony has adversely affected the sales of the world’s most adorable handheld gaming and digital entertainment console, the PSP, due to the discontinuation of its Extended Battery Kit. Now PSP fans cannot enjoy the long lasting hours of entertainment and fun, as they have to run their portable consoles by using the original factory fitted batteries only. However, according to Sony Entertainment, the company has made the right decision, claiming that, according to the results of a recent survey of PSP users, most PSP users are happy with the original battery kit supplied with the PSP Slim n Lite. The public relations manager Al De Leon said,”Yes, we are discontinuing this product as we look for other opportunities to service the consumer.”

To some extent the survey results are true as a large number of PSP fans are still happy without the extended battery kit, but there is also a majority of hardcore PSP gamers who are criticizing this decision. They count themselves among the most dedicated PSP fans, and therefore want to use their PSPs without any interruption. For this, they are always on the lookout for any hardware which can extend the operational duration of PSP, such as the extended battery kit. The discontinuation of this accessory has left these kinds of gamers highly disappointed.

Despite all the criticisms and even the initial fall in the sales of the handheld console, Sony has decided not to reverse its decision. Of course, customers are always capable of opting for non-Sony products, such as the Logic 3 PSP527 - External Rechargable Battery, that basically accomplish the same thing. The company is looking forward to serving something new and more exciting to PSP fans soon. PSP fans can have only those extended battery kits that are still remaining in the stores. So if you want to power up with your PSP with some extra fuel, then catch the final supplies of the extended battery kit before they are all the gone.

Do you have more than one battery pack for your PSP? Do you want to charge one of them without shutting down the PSP system? If yes, then have a look at the external battery charger exclusively designed for the PSP. This charger from Sony can quickly charge the PSP battery pack externally. It means that you can take out the battery pack from your PSP and put it to charge. If you have two battery packs, then this charger is more useful for you because you can charge the external battery without putting a pause on your entertainment.

The external battery charger features an indicator which shows whether the battery is fully charged or not. Thus, there is no risk of overcharging. You can easily plug it into any AC wall outlet, power it on, and it’s ready to perform. Normally, the PSP battery pack is set to 500 recharges by default. It means that after charging the battery for 500 times it cannot be charged. The external battery charger is however a little bit intelligent. Instead of counting the number of recharges, it considers the life of the battery and recharges it as much as it can. In other words, your battery pack does not remain underutilized. This battery charger will easily fit into your purse and pocket. It’s an official product manufactured by Sony Entertainment and comes for the PSP-1000 and PSP-191. Below are the technical specifications of this portable piece of technology:

AC 100-240V, 50/60Hz
DC 4.2 V 1550mA

This external battery charger is being successfully used by lots of people worldwide. Reviews and feedback prove that game enthusiasts, especially those who own more than one PSP battery find this little master very useful. They enjoy long hours of non-stop gaming and fun without having to worry about their PSP getting low power.
