Bust-A-Move Deluxe

Posted on Nov 24, 2008 10:10:24 AM

For a particular category of gamers, who could not digest the incredibly fictitious genre of games, settle with games that puzzle them. These games could tweak your brain like never before and would drive you harder to sit with it. Puzzle games have gained prominence among people for centuries. It may be because they offer real time situations, and getting out of the complex loop gives a great feeling to the players by the end of the game.

The Bust-A-Move, popularly known as BaM, is a puzzle game, where the players can use the orbs located at the bottom of the screen and launch them to clear the bubbles. Bubbles are multi colored and as you launch the orbs you have to try and match at least three colors. As the game advances, the bubbles will slowly be forced down towards the deadline. If the bubbles cross the deadline, the game is over. BaM offers almost 300 puzzles in the classic mode and there are several other modes available in the game.

The most exciting of the modes is the ghost mode, where the bubble bounces off a wall before it sticks to another orb. On its way to the wall, if there are any objects hindering its progress, the bubble passes through them. In Bust-A-Move players have to think in advance to plan on what kind of shots they have to use. There is a heart-meter than increases once you fail to clear a set of bubbles. When the heart-meter reaches five notches, the game ends.

The Bust-A-Move Deluxe features colorful graphics that look nice on the PSP’s wide screen, and the bright color combination is one of the attractive features of the game. However, it would have been nice if there were different themes as the game progresses with the puzzles. The players who have experienced the game earlier in the other gaming consoles feel to be missing the classic BaM music in the PSP version. But the music in the PSP version is not bad either. On the whole the Bust-A-Move Deluxe is a convincing puzzle game with innovative features and seriously challenging puzzles. With all these exciting elements, it is one game worth playing.

Enjoy Gunpey on your PSP

Posted on Sep 16, 2008 02:23:19 PM

Remember Lumines? In case you have forgotten, Lumines is one of the most appreciated puzzle games ever made. The game has received praise from gamers and critics alike. Here is another title known as Gunpey that comes with similar sensationalism, style and mind shaking puzzles.

Those who are familiar with Lumines will immediately see the similarities. In the title the player is required to connect the lines, which are pointing in various directions onto the gameplay grid, from left to right. The chain will get locked, and once you’ve linked one side to the other, you’ll have time to add more lines to it before it’s removed. There’s a D pad and a face button, with the help of which you can move a two block cursor onto the lines and move the line from one block to another. Gunpey (PSP) is over when the next row is due to appear and a line is in the top row is still incomplete. Moving the lines vertically is the first and primary challenge that needs to be accomplished.

As the player you’re not only require to connect the lines but also to move the ones which are nearer to the top towards the bottom. Making a complete connection gives you two benefits: first it’ll make the chain disappear and secondly it buys you more time. The lines become immovable for a short duration once the connection is created. If you’re used to the more visually appealing marbles and blocks then you’re at the right place. The player will have to tap the X button if he/she has already arranged the lines and is waiting for the next to appear.

In the beginning the play moves along slowly, but as the lines go to the top and it gets closer to ending, the rows start appearing quickly. While it’s not a perfect sequel to Lumines, it is an altogether quality puzzle game.

Echochrome Puzzle Madness for the PSP

Posted on Aug 13, 2008 08:26:16 AM

Get ready to experience one of the most popular puzzle games available on your PSP,  Echochrome. It’s an innovative and challenging puzzler which requires exceptional perception power and forces you to solve a large number of unique puzzles in an exciting way.

Echochrome consists of a total of 56 puzzle levels. Each of them requires you to guide your mannequin through the environment and collect four echoes which are scattered throughout the stage. You can also rotate the camera angle to see whether the two different pathways touch each other or not. If your mannequin falls through a hole then it will simply fall on anything which lies beneath it. The main challenge and excitement of Echochrome is that you get only three minutes to complete each level by deducing the right path. You will have to think and act as quickly as possible. Another challenging task is controlling the mannequin. It never stops moving until you press the triangle button on your PSP, and stopping it does not paus the three minute timer.

As far as the game’s visuals and performance are concerned, there is plenty to be delighted over. This game manages to look spectacular while strengthening your cognitive power. Although you will not get ultra hi-end graphics, you will experience true to life effects regarding the object distance and angle. The game flow is smooth and the background sound effects are also intellectually integrated with the movement of the mannequin. You can clearly hear the footsteps noise and the falling sound of the mannequin. Apart from these, you can also go beyond the original 56 in-game levels. By using the Canvas mode you can create your own puzzle levels, as well as modify the existing ones and share your creations with the help of Wi-Fi connectivity.

Drain your Brain with PQ2

Posted on Aug 6, 2008 12:00:34 PM

Unfortunately, many people have the perception that all games are based on blowing stuff up, explosions and guns. Of course this is not at all true, there are plenty of games in which no guns are involved, and all the combat is done with melee weapons; but, there are also games that are even more different, like puzzle games. Puzzle games can be just as exciting or interesting as any action oriented title. The game doesn’t include crime fighting or mission accomplishment tasks but it actually requires intelligence. One can play it for mind exercise as well. One such intellectually stimulating puzzle game is PQ2 for the PSP.

The concept of the game is very understandable as it includes a series of 100 three dimensional puzzles based on logic. Puzzle games aren’t that foreign to the PSP either, as many hit titles, like Go Sudoku (PSP), have been featured on the PSP. A player is assigned PQ scores to rate their efficiency and intelligence. Each and every puzzle involves a starting and a finishing point, and one has to guide his/her avatar throughout the level. The avatar is a white human shaped silhouette that you have to guide and ensure it reaches its destination (POINT B) in less time, while avoiding unnecessary moves. Consistency is the only way of simultaneously accomplishing the task and achieving relatively good score. The abilities of the avatar include walking around, stepping up a single block level, picking up smaller blocks, and pushing larger ones.

As compared to its previous version PQ, this upgraded edition of the game introduces some brand new aspects which will surely tease your brain further. PQ2 now includes glass blocks which will shatter if dropped; this is actually a something which can sometimes go for or against you. These blocks are amazing as lasers, which you will increasingly face more often as the game progresses, can also pass through them. The role of security guards is now being played by the Holmesian detectives. They will chase you on the same path and you’re bound to start the puzzle over if they catch up with you. Overall it’s an impressive mind twister which is recommended for any puzzle fans.
