Sega Genesis Collection: Replay old Classics

Posted on Dec 11, 2008 06:49:05 PM

Yet another compilation title, this time from the world of Sega, is the Sega Genesis Collection. At the time when Genesis was released, it had the best graphics, and some really awesome innovative games. There were addictive puzzles, awesome RPGs and some fast action titles as well. With this collection of games, the Genesis was an awesome console.

Now reliving that moment on the small screen, The Sega Genesis Collection features some of the best games which were available for the Genesis, down on the PSP. Nostalgic gamers will find this title to be just what they want from the Sega Universe.

This compilation features 28 games from the Genesis, in addition to five other Sega Arcade games that are unlockable. It has some of the best games ever on the genesis, such as Phantasy Star II, III and IV, Sonic 1 and 2, Ecco the dolphin 1, 2 and Jr., Comix Zone, Alex Kidd and the likes. The Bonus Arcade Games are Space Fury, Congo Bongo, Astro Blaster, Eliminator and Super Zaxxon.

Some games like Ecco Jr. and Decap Attack don’t quite cut it to the best games list, but most of the others do, making the collection truly worth the buy. The Phantasy Star IV RPG game is probably one of the best ever of its kind. Sega didn’t add in Widescreen support for all the games, but the games still fit well in to the PSP screen, and give you an awesome experience.

All games can be saved at any time now, and gamers can visit the “museum” in most games, which contains a history of the game, and maybe even some tips and tricks. The menus could have been worked on a little more, but that’s not what we’re here for is it?

Another major plus to the title is the integration of multiplayer. Now other PSPs can even join you midgame. That’s an awesome feature, and there’s no lag or slowing down when implementing it… Kudos to Sega.

Sega Genesis Collection is on of the best compilations available for the PSP, and every old school Sega fan should go out and get one.

EA Replay: Revisit all your favorite EA Games

Posted on Dec 3, 2008 04:25:03 PM

EA Replay is an interesting collection of games from the 16-bit era from Electronic Arts. These are part of the Genesis games and Super Nintendo Entertainment System games skillfully reproduced and re created for PSP.

User friendly features include the option of saving your game at any given point, emulation which is quite accurate and speedy load times. Collection includes certain popular game classics. There are a total of fourteen games from the 16-bit library in the EA Replay PSP game. Synthesis is one of the games in which you control a group of thugs wearing trench coats. This futuristic gang war game is as exciting on the PSP as it was in its original PC version.

Other games of this interesting pack include Wing Commander, Ultima: The Black Gate, Wing Commander: Secret Missions, etc. Other games which play as good on the PSP as with their original consoles include the Mutant League Football, Desert Strike, Jungle Strike, Road Rash games, Violent twist on the Madden series, etc.

Game graphics are similar to the original console versions. However sound lacks in clarity and effect. There are the multiplayer games too which allow you to play with two players with an ad hoc connection.

On the whole, there are varied reactions to this compilation. Apart from a few classic games which are universally popular, the others require the player to be particularly interested in that game to hold attention.

If you are looking for numbers and variety for a reasonable price and not particularly bothered about what you play, this is an interesting set of games you can go in for to enjoy on your favorite PSP.

EA Replay can be an interesting addition to your game collection. Choose any one of the fourteen games which interests you and enjoy playing.

Experience Gradius to the fullest with the Gradius Collection

Posted on Oct 20, 2008 12:59:26 PM

An awesome gaming package, in the form of the Gradius Collection, was created with an amalgamation of Gradius II (1988), Gradius III (1989), Gradius IV (1998), and Gradius Gaiden (1997). As a gamer you have most likely played the renowned Gradius titles, which are known as a popular series in the space shoot ‘em up genre. Unfortunately, the Gradius Collection is not quite whole or complete, as it is noticeably missing both Life Force (the Gradius spin off sequel that brought two player gameplay and vertical scrolling stage) and 2004’s Gradius V.

Despite the fact that two alluring titles from the series are missing, the collection still offers plenty of entertaining Gradius gameplay. Although to really appreciate the Gradius titles, it is important to not judge them based on today’s standards, and understand how old most of the games are. Predictably, the weakest member of the Gradius family is surely original the Gradius as the Gradius II is far-far better. At 20 years of age it still looks as fresh as ever, and the game’s challenges and modes are just as great as they were 20 years ago. The toughest one of the batch is Gradius III. You will have to prepare yourself to crank up on extra lives if you want to get through this edition.

The best thing about the Gradius collection is that you can switch to another title easily. In most of the titles long loading times lead to frustration, but fortunately the loading time in this game is incredibly fast. If you have a desire to play the old Gradius games, then this collection might be for you, but beware of how technologically outdated the games are.
