Over the Hedge: Hammy goes Nuts

Posted on Dec 12, 2008 06:30:51 PM

Over the Hedge is a great comic strip and an even better movie. In 2006, Activision published a game based on the movie. It was a 3D action game, of sorts. Following the storyline of the original movie and comic strip, the main characters, RJ, Verne and Hammy, along with some of their friends, try to cope with the urbanization of their habitats, and the invasion of people into their forest.

The original game was released for the GameCube, PS2, Xbox, GameBoy Advance and the PC. After that, there were no other games based on the popular comic… until now. Activision is back now to bring to the PSP an original Over the Hedge game, Over The Hedge - Hammy goes Nuts. The game is in development for just handheld consoles this time, targeted at the Gameboy Advance, the PlayStation Portable and the Nintendo DS.

The game revolves around the three main characters of Over The Hedge, Hammy, Verne and RJ, following the story of the three traveling back into the suburbs to get back what is rightfully Hammy’s… his lost Cable TV connection.

Each version of the game, on each different console, is developed with exclusive content, making each version console specific.

Hammy Goes Nuts features a more puzzle- based gameplay system. Basically, the game is about running around and collecting items to add to other items to repair Hammy’s Cable TV. Though not for the hardcore mature gamers, the younger generation of gamers will enjoy this title, as it puts their brains to work in an extremely fun way.

You take on the role of Hammy, and can get the help of Verne, Stella and RJ through the game, to complete tasks to get your cable back.

Levels involve finding keys to gain access to doors, which essentially take you to the next level. Puzzles in the game may be a bit easier than expected, but the younger gamers will have a great time solving them and progressing through the game.

The game is great for young gamers, with some entertaining puzzles and familiar characters from the Over The Hedge universe. It has some nice sound effects, and is overall a good game for those looking to just have some fun.

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows

Posted on Sep 18, 2008 01:13:36 PM

The work of superheroes never ends. As long as evil forces try to dominate the world, superheroes will have to put on their tight fancy clothes and set out to do battle. This is especially true for the Marvel superhero Spider-Man. Activision is going to launch this hero against the forces of evil again in October 2008, in this latest version entitled Spider-Man: Web of Shadows.

This time there will be more ruthless enemies, more devastating action and tougher challenges, because Venom has returned to the city, and he is not alone. He has joined hands with the Symbiotes. The Marvel law enforcement agency, SHIELD has prevented the invasion from spreading, and the entire city is now cut off from the outside world. Spider-Man has to act quickly and fight against the villains and himself, before the Symbiotes transform him into the black Spider-Man one again.

All the characters that have been confirmed up until now include Black Cat, Kingpin, Luke Cage, Mary Jane Watson, Venom, Vulture, Wolverine and the Symbiotes. This new version will offer some of the unique and never-before-seen features. The fighting system in Spider-Man - Web of Shadows, for one, has been majorly enhanced. Now the player can chase enemies with the utmost acceleration and style. The Spiderman can make use of flagpoles in order to gain momentum apart, in addition to the traditional web swinging style. Another one of the game’s unique characteristics is how Spidey can take vertical flights and fight against the evildoers on the city walls. But this is not enough. There’s something even more interesting. Your Spidey can now change his suit any time, even during combat, in order to use the right combos and moves at the right time. So be ready for a new action fueled odyssey with Spider-Man.

Spider-Man 2 is hanging on your PSP

Posted on Aug 6, 2008 12:32:30 PM

Our childhood comic book and superhero fantasies are no longer confined to comics or movies. Although the movies, especially with such classics as Spider-Man 2, have gotten much better in terms of graphics, there is another way to relive the super hero experience. We are of course talking about playing as Spider-Man on your PSP in a title named after the movie, Spider-Man 2.

The title is actually inspired and takes cues from the 2002 Spider-man blockbuster flick. If we talk about the title’s concept, then it includes approximately 20 interconnected stages or levels which are impossible to skip. In Spider-Man: The Movie 2 (PSP) our super hero has to confront several supplementary devils before he defeats the ultimate Dr. Octopus. The stages are very cleverly designed and interconnected, but still manage to sustain a similar amount of excitement. Some of the adventurous rescue missions which you have to go through, include tailing Doctor Octopus across New York City’s skyline, preventing a calamity on the unsuspecting populace, and rescuing hostages from the clutches of Meysterio and his weird museum. In between you’ll also come across tones of goons and explore other suspicious elements of the title.

The game also involves heart shaking missions which forces your player to run against time in order to succeed. You’ll use numerous superpowers and combos to accomplish the missions. With the controller you can move Spidey in the desired direction or can use the abilities to make gateways. The webbing in the title acts as a catalyst, as it can be used for making a zip line, cocoons and other maneuvers. Spiderman 2’s graphics are not up to the mark but still create the appropriate ambience while playing. This is another excellent Spider-Man title that any fan of the movie should not be without.
