Cannon Fodder is an out of the mill war game which depicts the very aspect of war in a light hearted vein. This game takes you through a war which makes you feel it is a laugh and quite cute. This is a fantastic game for those who love war games which is not too serious.
‘War is fun’ is the general feeling players experience as they start playing this interesting game. Originally released for the Commodore Amiga quit some time ago, the Cannon Fodder game from Sensible Software spawned numerous other titles, such as Cannon Soccer or Sensible Soccer. Gamers are constantly entertained by the miniature military they control as you make them hurl grenades at the guard huts, whiz through arctic wastelands steering skidoos or picking jungle patrols. Even when they die they are humorous. They leave a lot of blood trailing behind even as they are violently pulled away amidst a huge cry.
Level designs offer more challenge and entertainment as they are quite intelligent. As a player, you get to use exciting and advanced weapons. You also use vehicles as you go through crazily named missions. It is possible to perform radar sweeps and call in air strikes and you have at your disposal a fantastic array of new weapons. Using the sniper rifles and the flamethrowers is thrilling and addictive.
There is however a feeling of something lacking in the control system. It is quite difficult to guide your troops across the sea and land with just cursor rotation. There are annoying mis-directions and delays which are quite frustrating. Added to this is the irritating and temperamental secondary fire control. However, there are ways to tackle all these faults with practice and these cannot definitely keep us away from wanting to keep proceeding to the next mission. Wars are exciting and offer a lot of thrill and joy.
An interesting aspect of this game is the live reporting of action on the FTV channel which offers players a better view of the field. Modes include the co-op mode and the four player link play.
A wealth of interesting features have been packed into Canon Fodder by developers Codemasters and this game clearly comes with all the ingredients to offer players unlimited fun and excitement on their favourite PSP.
