The Sims 2: Pets available on the handheld PSP

Posted on Dec 16, 2008 10:38:21 AM

Sims 2 enthusiasts are sure delighted with the announcement of the release of its expansion Sims 2 Pets by EA. Sure to be a repeat of a standalone Sims 2 version, there are a few impressions that has trickled in regarding the features of this most expected release.

In this game, you do not get to control the pets directly. As with the previous games, you effectively manipulate human Sim character lives. The Sims 2 - Pets starts off on a different tone putting you on an exciting track. As a player you first scan a community, analyze and decide on how you want to play. You have the option of choosing an empty lot to build from scratch or play with an already existing family-in-progress. You then go on to create your pets with the help of the pet creation system.

After selecting your set of loyal pals from a choice of over forty pure breeds of dogs and cats, you can mess around with them to your heart’s content, including mixing, blending and swapping them. At the onset, of course, you choose the gender just like in the subsequent game Sims 3 for the PC. Then you go on to shape the body of the pet by defining the color, fashion, head, name and personality. This should be the most interesting part of the game, especially for a Sim fan.

Traits can be defined with the help of a wide range of options. With the help of a tab called “fashion” you can choose from a range of shoes, bandanas and collars for your pet. Your creation can be morphed in size and shape with the help of the head and body tabs. Personality can be defined with qualities like hyper, lazy, nice, snooty, doofus, smart, chill, aggressive, etc. After you are satisfied with your pet, you actually start playing the game.

Along with the human Sims as in the originals, here you are required to keep track of the needs of your pets too. You will even have to monitor their chewing and scratching traits as ignoring this will lead to a devastation of your flower garden or expensive furniture. PSP version allows you to take your pet shopping to the town square to purchase stuff like toys, food, etc in three prominent shops namely pet emporium, toy store and a bakery.

EA Replay: Revisit all your favorite EA Games

Posted on Dec 3, 2008 04:25:03 PM

EA Replay is an interesting collection of games from the 16-bit era from Electronic Arts. These are part of the Genesis games and Super Nintendo Entertainment System games skillfully reproduced and re created for PSP.

User friendly features include the option of saving your game at any given point, emulation which is quite accurate and speedy load times. Collection includes certain popular game classics. There are a total of fourteen games from the 16-bit library in the EA Replay PSP game. Synthesis is one of the games in which you control a group of thugs wearing trench coats. This futuristic gang war game is as exciting on the PSP as it was in its original PC version.

Other games of this interesting pack include Wing Commander, Ultima: The Black Gate, Wing Commander: Secret Missions, etc. Other games which play as good on the PSP as with their original consoles include the Mutant League Football, Desert Strike, Jungle Strike, Road Rash games, Violent twist on the Madden series, etc.

Game graphics are similar to the original console versions. However sound lacks in clarity and effect. There are the multiplayer games too which allow you to play with two players with an ad hoc connection.

On the whole, there are varied reactions to this compilation. Apart from a few classic games which are universally popular, the others require the player to be particularly interested in that game to hold attention.

If you are looking for numbers and variety for a reasonable price and not particularly bothered about what you play, this is an interesting set of games you can go in for to enjoy on your favorite PSP.

EA Replay can be an interesting addition to your game collection. Choose any one of the fourteen games which interests you and enjoy playing.

The Godfather: Mob Wars on the PSP

Posted on Nov 27, 2008 01:56:44 PM

One of the legendary novels penned by the great Italian novelist Mario Puzo has been the favorite of millions around the world. The convincing imagination and the elegant interpretation of the author has given rise to the movies that share the same name as the novel – The Godfather. The trilogy was filmed in an historic fashion and its impact still reigns supreme among the film appreciators. As it is a tendency of the mob to visualize their favorite movie in every possible media, game developers came out with the mob game named ‘The Godfather’.

The idea of the game was budding among the game developers and Electronic Arts were the first to come out with the PSP version of the game in 2006. Since then the international gaming markets were flooded with one name ‘The Godfather: Mob Wars”. The Godfather PSP version is partly of the GTA style combined with elements of strategy. The player gets to take control of the various utilities from the city. His primary aim would be to become the Don of the city and he has to gain reputation points to be so. The game includes direct combat with the enemies. Guns, pistols and other weapons could be made use to of to attack the enemies.

The money that is gained in the game is very important for the survival of the player. Using this money, the player would be able to hire new thugs from each district and use them to capture the territory. The story line progresses with the acquiring of cards by running outfits like diamond, jewelry, gambling etc. The game however has few setbacks. The cars in the city could not be used as how it could be in the other consoles. That makes the mission more tedious and tiring. The game has two modes and both are discrete from each other. The action sequences are really simplistic and give no room for strategic planning. The game would however be a great success among The Godfather lovers. They get to tune the characters with all what they desire. The game played a commendable role in paying a tribute to the historic trilogy.

Get your Hockey on with NHL 07 for your PSP

Posted on Aug 15, 2008 03:06:28 PM

NHL 07 is one of the most interesting Ice Hockey Video games which can be played on the PSP. You will love it when you get to play it. EA’s long running NHL series has consistently been the best hockey video game franchise around, and this tradition of excellence is now continued on your PSP.

Many improvements have been made since the first EA Sports NHL games were introduced over a decade ago. Now you can enjoy the same upgraded and advanced console version of NHL 07 on your favorite handheld. In a nutshell, the NHL 07 ice hockey PSP game is a solid, good hockey experience, which handles the portable transition seamlessly.

For all you hockey lovers, you cannot find anything better than this. The features and modes of game play have evolved into a state of near perfection here. User friendly and intuitive controls make this game all the more exciting. You can take your shots with the round and square buttons, triangles help you with the autodekes, the X button is for passing, and you can generate speed with the trigger on the right. The Autodeke function enables you to execute dekes and other evasive moves. A single button essentially controls all other moves like poke checks, body checks, hook moves, dives, etc.

Though similar to the console version of the game, the PSP version differs in the sense that it is more difficult to score here. This provides players with more of challenge and increased excitement. Apart from the usual game of hockey there are various modes you can choose from. The dynasty mode includes a basic player role playing system, which allows you to divide the players into different categories like danglers, power forwards, snipers, etc. Placing them strategically to generate the best chemistry is of course in your hands. If the dynasty mode is connected to both the PSP and PS2, then you can trade and save files from both consoles. However, you will have to have two versions of the game. Other popular modes include the world season, free for all, multiple player mode and seasons.

NHL 07 is an entertaining and fun game of ice hockey which is portable and has enough stuff in it to make it absolutely interesting and worthwhile.

NCAA Football 09 for your PSP

Posted on Jul 16, 2008 07:29:30 AM

Bring college action to your PSP with NCAA football 09. This college football video game is created by EA Sports and is scheduled to be released this month. It uses a breakaway animation engine which will allow gamers to have direct control and influence on the field. The stadium is completely alive and reacts to big plays, which creates an excellent and realistic atmosphere for the player. Even the effect of home field advantage is taken into consideration. Players can customize the music for the stadium by using the custom stadium sound feature.

NCAA Football 09 will appear more pragmatic than its earlier games by having more backup players on the sidelines, cheerleaders, and fans in the background. EA Sports happens to have series for nearly every major sport out there, however, this game, along with its NHL, FIFA 08, and NBA series, is among the company’s most successful. There would be 50 alternative uniforms along with the new college player models. The recruiting system would be more polished and enhanced. This game has both single player and multiplayer modes. To hide your play calls from the person sitting next to you, you have an option of bluffed play art.

With this improvised football game, you have better passing controls, and you can get to know the smart routes as well. You will also see play-by-play post game presentations. Almost all the games are for a shot period of time. Interactive TD celebrations and Mascot games are also something to look forward to in this game. While choosing the play now option you will get a list of teams to choose from, which was not seen it its earlier games. This NCAA Football edition features many exciting changes for the better, and is perfect for all football fans.

More Magic with Harry Potter

Posted on Apr 24, 2008 10:07:48 AM

“Harry Potter and the half-blood Prince” will be released for the PS3, PSP, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, Wii, PC and even the GBA, at the same time as the upcoming film. The ports under an apparent time constraint will probably not be any real top hits, but fans of the series, myself included, can get excited over a nice game. The predecessor “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” even managed to win over many critics, and the PSP version was actually quite playable. So maybe we should wait and see before dismissing the game as a pure marketing tool for the book and movie. EA could enchant the game with some of their own magic. More information available at Game Daily.

From New York to Moscow: The Sims sell more than 100 Million Units

Posted on Apr 17, 2008 10:23:21 AM

From New York to Moscow. That’s pretty damn far. So far, in fact, that Google maps can’t even calculate an optimal travel route. But the incredible distance between the two cities is the same as if all the Sims boxes sold were queued up together in one straight line. Because the Sims have sold over 100 million units, counting all the expansions. Which means that on average every third American or every seventh European would possess a copy of the Sims. At any rate, the series is clearly the most successful game of all time, not even Grand Theft Auto comes close.

EA can of course be thrilled over their success, because, as the New York Times reports, the Sims have brought in around 4 billion dollars, or around 500 million per year. One, not unimportant, reason for the success is that the game is disproportionately beloved by children and women; something most other games cannot begin to contend. On the other hand, the PSP editions, namely Pets and Stranded, have received less success and love. But to be honest, the PSP is simply not the right console for the executing the “real” Sims experience. That’s why we can get even more excited over Sims 3 which has been announced for next year and will allow people to move around their neighbourhood for the first time. So the successor to the 100-million-boxes-from-New York-to-Moscow-game has been secured, which is sure to make many more people happy. Who knows, maybe it will be from New York to Dubai soon.
