No Gravity: The Plague of Mind is a mediocre PSP Game

Posted on Apr 4, 2009 10:41:21 PM

This is a mediocre game for the PSP. The action in this flight simulator is set in space where there is no object as a landmark for orientation, there is no sense of up and down and there is complete enveloping darkness.

The very characteristic of space is there is no sense or orientation and direction. There is a sense of imbalance as you try to gauge which direction you are supposed to go. Adding to this is the enveloping darkness which does not allow you to see clearly. These two reasons only compound the failure of No Gravity, and anyone looking for a well made flight sim will do better to go for a game like Pilot Academy on the PSP. Even though plenty of games succeed in making flight sims in space work, No Gravity, doesn’t and the controls/point remains confusing and unintuitive.

Missions are linear and action is far away from the storyline. Colourful graphics is very impressive with exciting particle effects and explosions filled with impact. The Eurotrash style music is very apt and complements the game perfectly.

Controls of the spaceship are simple and straightforward. Rolling is possible with the help of the double tapped shoulder button, manoeuvring is possible with the help of the joystick, camera angles can be adjusted with the D-Pad and thrust and lock on functions can be accessed with the face buttons.

Though there are various ship models on offer, everyone naturally chooses the best all round model. Uninspiring set of missions take you around as you shoot enemy fighters, defend your ship from them, etc. Mechanism involved in shooting down enemy fighters is quite complicated and cumbersome.

Between the save points, you have to complete three to four sub missions which are frustratingly linked together. With such a random placement of enemy and repetitive actions, the game could have done better without this feature.

No Gravity provides moderate fun for a few hours at most. The number of save points irritates and frustrates and doing nothing else but repetitively shooting enemy fighters takes the fun away. The game neither packs enough thrills to make you scream nor enough excitement and fun to make you smile. Moderate is what it can be termed as. If you are not looking for too much excitement may be you can try out No Gravity on your PlayStation Portable.

Air combat enthusiasts cannot resist buying this game. The intensity of the combat is exciting and thrilling and the game is loaded with fun filled missions. The game features solid, arcade style air combat.

The feel and atmosphere of animated cartoons is brought to life with the help of musical scores and cinemas. Charming voice acting for characters add to the element of fun. Snoopy, as we all know, has always been highly fascinated with air battles in World War I. Pet beagle of Charlie Brown is famous for imagining himself to be a popular flying ace adept at attacking the legendary Red Baron in dogfights.

Namco-Bandai games offer this exciting scenario in the all new video game Snoopy Vs the Red Baron. As a player, you can take control of aircraft like Sopwith Camel to go on missions. The game is obviously more cute than other flight sim games like Ace Combat X, however, it still contains plenty of dogfighting action. Missions in the Snoopy game involve you in the middle of war time action with your favorite Peanut characters and shooting down hordes of enemy planes. This is an ideal game for kids with all the excitement without the bloodshed. As you shoot a plane to bits, characters parachute to safety. This does not in any way hinder the intensity of action making this game ideal for older people too.

Game starts with a scene where Snoopy is fast asleep over his dog house. As Lucy and Charlie Brown walk over and question Snoopy on his World War I action dreams, our journey through Snoopy’s fantastic dreams commence. As the ace WWI, you get to control the actions of Snoopy. You are taken through Allied army missions numbering twenty two. To free Europe from the powerful grip of the tyrannical Red Baron is the objective of the game.

At the end of missions, animated video scenes appear. The tried and true concepts along with innovative experiences make this game one of the most thrilling combat games. The overall look and feel of the game is interesting with the twenty two missions being split into multiple segments. Shooting down enemy planes, sinking gunships and blimps are the standard mission activities.

With a host of familiar characters from Peanuts assisting you, you can have non stop fun with this game on your favorite PSP.

Fantastic graphics add to the fun as you race around combating in some of the most action packed moments in M.A.C.H. (Modified Air Combat Heroes). There is a feeling the events and stages could have been more varied but the overall impact of the game is quite stupendous as it is.

As a gamer, you cannot but love the story behind the game though bordering on the ridiculous. The story line starts in the year 2049 when the global military superpowers decide to replace fighter jets that are manned by unmanned aircraft. Heroes of the Pacific for the PSP

Posted on Jul 15, 2008 07:04:26 AM

Humans have always fantasized about flying in the air. Well, now Heroes of the Pacific gives every gamer the chance to fulfill this fantasy on the PSP. The game developed by Transmission games and published by Ubisoft is based on the Pacific War involving Japan and America, including many famous battles such as the attack on Pearl Harbor.

The player can fly their plane in two different modes, namely the arcade mode and the professional mode. The player can change the difficulty level as per his convenience and thus the more difficult level he chooses, the more points he gets for defeating rival planes, which allows the player to upgrade his aircraft after a successful mission. Torpedo bombers, dive bombers and medium bombers are all available at the player’s disposal. Nearly all of the features available in the Heroes of the Pacific (PC) version, are also included in the PSP handheld one. There are a total of 26 missions which a player has to go through with the battle venues covering the entire pacific region. Those gamers who have a knack for flying will get to fly the P-40 Warhawk, P-51 Mustang, F4U Corsair and the P-47 Thunderbolt. The final confrontation has been designed to happen on the Japanese controlled volcanic island of Iwo Jima.

The hallmark of the game is that it takes the gamer away from the complications of real life aviation and immerses him into the world of aerial gaming action. It is not a realistic flight simulation with strict rules, but rather an action packed flying game. The roaring of engines and the noisy guns will make you feel as if you are right in the middle of a war zone. A game for all those who want to relive the experience when disaster struck Pearl Harbour and those who want to feel like war heroes by gunning down the enemy planes.

Such is the way of life now. That’s the way things are with your PSP too.

The Latest release of WWII: Battle over the Pacific is a good case in point, having joined the ranks of all the famed releases on the PSP. Now, officially launched and already taken off for the battle, WWII is a game that keeps you high up in the air. The fighter sim soaks you in a mix of emotions and keeps you suspended high up in the air thanks to all that adrenaline pumping.

The game is on the PSP and that would mean you can literally play anywhere and then here’s the plot of the game as rendered by game.co.uk:

“… You are the only pilot who has what it takes to defeat the enemy forces. You will need your wits about you to gun down bomber and fighter planes. You will need accuracy and nerves of steel to fly into the flak from gunboats as you try and sink the enemy naval fleet. You will need sharp reactions and loads of luck as you dive bomb vehicle convoys of tanks, ground troops and take out the all important fuel tanks.
The risks are high but the glory even greater for those brave enough to take the P38 Lightning and F4U-4 Corsair into high speed dog fights before swooping in to bomb targets on land. The enemy planes are super quick and the pilots ruthless so don’t hang about admiring the scenery - get in there …”

A game that must hope to have your spirits soaring – this is a must buy for your PSP.
