The Con on the PSP

Posted on Sep 16, 2008 03:04:57 PM

You must have played countless 3D fighting games, but have you ever tried the Con? Everyone is used to the one-on-one clichéd fighting concept, but the Con has something unexpected. We are talking about its betting concept, which definitely makes this game standout.

While it is a standard 3D fighting game with an outstanding concept, you might have to deal with some flaws. The player is required to build up his/her team by employing three fighters and later managing them. You have to make several attempts to rise to “the big time” through street fighting ranks. Being on top is an indescribable feeling and you’ll get there by winning the fights.

The gameplay also includes earning and holding up a large chunk of cash, without which getting to the top is completely impossible. Betting on the fights is the only way to earn money. Before every fight the odds for each player will be displayed. The odds can also be pumped in the either direction, as the odds change during the fight. Apart from the cash you’re also struggling hard to earn respect and this is only possible by vanquishing your enemies. You will also come across a story in the story mode, but it’s so monotonous that it’s better to ignore it.

As an action packed title, it is admittedly exciting and fun to begin with, but once you get the hang of it, it won’t remain that exhilarating. The Con (PSP) only gives you the authority for swaying and ducks, which really limits the fun and interactivity. As you progress, you can utilize the combos involved by editing them and converting them into longer and more damaging ones. On defense you only have ability of dodging attacks or using R trigger to counter them. While the game does something unique and never before seen in other fighting titles, it also comes up short in the terms of the actual fighting gameplay. So it could be worth a try if the concept interests you, but otherwise stay away.

Play Poker on your PSP

Posted on Jul 22, 2008 02:55:42 PM

To excel in Poker, you need to have luck on your side along with skill. The game is very unpredictable as anyone can be victorious with any given hand of cards. Even if a player is completely down and out in the game, he/she can still come back and score an upset with the help of a great bluff or substantial draw. One needs a certain kind of temperament to play the game, as in many cases, the stakes are very high. Emotions are strictly forbidden while one plays the game, as the opponent might sense what kind of hand you have.

Now all this can be experienced on your PSP as Activision brings you World Series of Poker, a game specially designed for the PSP. Since a game on poker is the complete opposite of real-life poker, good presentation is half the battle won. This is where World Series of Poker 2008 (PSP) scores amongst poker lovers, because the graphics are excellent and practically make the player feel as if he was sitting in a casino. Ad-Hoc and Infrastructure online play make the game more intense and realistic.

The game starts as a group of players assemble together who seek to change their fortunes with every player hoping to take all the money home. The gamer might play a high-card and might claim a very high raise to continue his stay in the hand. Then the player who might be leading may call a very large raise for an inside straight draw. Then during the course of the game, the opponent might tell the gamer to check and even the two of them might even split the pot as the aces and kings might not be of any use when shown on the table.

The game keeps the interest alive until a clear winner is declared. A good take on the sport played in real-life, this PSP game does a great job of portraying the card game as it really is. It is a must buy for all the poker freaks.
