Ok, it’s really a bad news for mobile gamers. Sony has finally dropped the idea of allowing Sony Ericsson to make the PSP Phone, something which the mobile gamers were desperately waiting a long time for. The company is not going to license PSP branding to Sony Ericsson. The concept of the PSP Phone was very cool and it incited loads of mobile phone gamers all over the world. After Apple started focusing on making the iPhone and iPod a potential handheld gaming device it was speculated that the Sony and Xbox maker Microsoft too will integrate their consoles with the mobile phones.
The PSP Phone finally remained a stupendous device in concept only. It was supposed to integrate the PlayStation Portable (Sony’s popular handheld gaming console) Sony Ericsson mobile phones like the Sony-Ericsson Xperia X1. Sony was interested to license the PSP brand only if the Ericsson stops making mobile phones. Indirectly, the Sony indicated an end to its relationship with Ericsson. Sony never refuses to make high standard products with other electronic products makers but it only do so when it believes that the new product in question will meet the standards, quality and technical specifications as laid down by Sony, otherwise the company don’t allow the third party manufacturers to use its brand.
According to a Sony Ericsson’s spokesperson, “In the past, we have been keen that our product proposition lives up to brand promise, and we feel at the moment the technical specs are not high enough to put such a prestigious brand on a phone.” Finally the mobile phone gamers are not getting anything like PSP Phone as of now. May be the company allow Ericsson to develop it in future but waiting for it keenly is a total waste of time.

Since the beginning of portable gaming, countless handheld gaming consoles have been introduced to the market. Currently, the most popular ones are obviously the Nintendo DS, DS Lite and the Sony Play Station Portable, popularly known as PSP. But now Apple is also putting emphasis on its products as a gaming platform and is looking to grab a chunk of the mobile gaming market for itself.
Apart form the PSP there are two other mobile devices named Apple iPhone and Apple iPod which offers spectacular gaming experience. It’s hard to compare them with each other. Often it leaves the new gamers confused when they move out to purchase a portable gaming console for themselves. So, what to do? How to choose the best one? Well, it all depends on the individual’s needs ad preferences. Both the PSP’s and Apple iPhone’s displays render high quality video and graphics and these devices are compatible with Wi-Fi connections. You can choose any one of them to listen to good quality music and store lots of multimedia data. The only differentiating features are the other functions which these two devices can perform, the controls, the cost and the game database.
Coming to the functionality of these two products one thing is clear that if you want to make and receive calls apart from gaming then the iPhone is for you. Control wise the PSP is better as it is especially designed for gaming purpose and offers a D-pad and standard four buttons. You can also add a conventional joystick to PSP but this option is not available for iPhone. If you want to play touch screen games both in landscape and portrait mode then go for iPhone. Both the iPhone’s and PSP games are of equivalent cost but overall the iPhone is very costly device. Further, your monthly bill is increased because of the call plan you receive with the iPhone but in case of PSP you end up playing high quality games at a much low cost. The games available for the iPhone are less as of now and the PSP has got large database containing lots of game titles of every genre.
