My Spanish Coach is not your typical Playstation Portable game. In fact, it is far from it. As the name suggests, this title is meant to teach you Spanish. When you turn on the game for the first time, you will be quizzed into getting a hang of all the basics of the language, through introductory language tests. Basically, you use the face button to pick the English equivalent to the Spanish word given.
The main part of the game, the teaching, is achieved mini games, which help you recollect and refresh what you’ve learnt through the tutorial texts, which basically tell you what to use where and when. The mini games are also where your progress is recorded, and you know how good you’re getting at Spanish.
This of course involves a lot of brainwork, but it’s in a fun way, so it’s pretty acceptable. The basic idea of the mini games is to see how much you’ve mastered each word in the lesson individually and give you experience accordingly. My Spanish Coach PSP initially keeps the games to only the words from that particular lesson, unless you want to make things harder and include everything you’ve learnt till that point. You can keep trying and retrying tests till you’ve collected enough experience and mastered all 10 words in the mini game to move on to the next lesson.
The lessons are creatively placed and displayed on a map of Mexico, and you are taken along a preset rout learning things in order, such as days of the week, colours, etc.
There are many mini games you can experience in the game, ranging from simple multiple- choice questions to finding the right word in a jumble of words, to picking letters to form a word. You even have whack-a-mole type games among the eight mini games to keep you entertained. There could have been more implemented into the game, but hey, it’s the Spanish we’re worried about, right?
My Spanish Coach actually does a decent job in getting you hooked on to Spanish, and can be really useful for those who really want to learn a language, but do not have the time for professional coaching. The game gives you a lot of entertainment, and best of all, you can play it at your own pace and learn the language as you like, well, at least the basics.

Till now all the hard core and armature gamers have experienced titles full of thrill, excitement, mystery, action, puzzle, competition & sports. They must have enjoyed playing them as well. But now kids can experience another title on their favorite console known as the PSP (play station portable). This extraordinary title is an educational game, offering excitement and thrill typical of action games. The title’s title is “Spelling challengers and more!” and it undertakes the responsibility of improving your spelling which can further lead to securing good marks in exams.
The title will drain your brain till the time you extract correct spelling of the word asked from your mind. Now let’s talk about the theme or the concept of the game. The spelling challengers includes a sum of 14 word games utilizing a database of 25,000 words coupled with around 100 complicated stages that will be based on your performance. The first game with which you will come across is “Odd one out”. The game involves a touch screen listed four words, one of which is misspelled and the gamer has to locate that wrongly spelled word. Simultaneously we are also competing with the clock to identify the misspelled word in less time, and thereby secure higher scores. This process of securing scores will take us to the advanced levels and by following the same procedure we will reach the last stage in the blink of an eye. But in PSP version it will speak the word aloud rather than flashing it on the screen, and rest of the procedure is similar. This proves the PSP is also a great learning device, despite being a gaming console, and that the laptop alone is not the only portable computer conducive to education. Being a PSP lover one must check out this game as early as possible. This fantastic title is enough to make anyone fond of word games. Have fun and improve your vocabulary at the same time.

Ever wished to be an expert of different languages? If yes, then have Talkman installed on your PSP. It’s an interactive application which works as a language translator and tutor to help you communicate in six different languages. With Talkman you can get hold of English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Japanese.
Talkman is a USB based peripheral by Sony Entertainment. It was originally developed for Japanese PSP owners so that they can easily learn and understand English. In order to communicate with Talkman, a silver colored microphone is also included within the package. Max, an animated blue colored bird will act as your teacher and language interpreter. He will interact with you in a user friendly manner and guide you throughout your learning curve.
Talkman is more like a game. There are several different exercises which will help you to judge yourself. In its talk mode, you can choose form a variety of real life scenarios such as hotel, airport, theatre and much more. For each of the scenarios you will get a directory of context sensitive questions, which people normally ask. Set a language in which the question is to be asked and the Talkman will read it clearly in that respective language. You can communicate with lots of people via Talkman. Whatever you say to the recipient, Talkman emphasizes common phrases in order to convey its intended meaning. One important point to be noted is while asking the questions you should be in the appropriate scenario. For example: if you are in the theatre scenario, you cannot ask about the weather conditions. Whenever you select a scenario, Max takes you to an appropriate location on the PSP screen. For example, while talking about football, Max will take you to the football ground. Apart from the conversations and games, it is also useful to have Talkman with you while traveling. A lot of tools are there to assist you like converter tool, alarm and much more.

We have always been amazed at the extreme versatility of the PSP and even then, we are pleasantly surprised when things like this happen – There is now a plethora of learning tools available for use on your PSP. So not only do you just while away time and immerse yourself in the sinful pleasure of playing thrilling games on PSP, but you will also learn on the PSP.
How’s this for a hand-held (Hand-holding?) experience? Did you even think of the possibility of your PSP being a learning device? Actually, come to think of it – the PSP makes for an awesome learning device simply because it is almost like a computer. If computers can bring information and learning to your bedrooms. PSP can get it to you, anywhere.
Quoting from an excerpt on pspfanboy:
“Atlantic Link is now offering PSP owners the most valuable gift of all: the gift of learning. Their e-learning tools can now design courses for the PSP’s internet browser, which can be deployed from Memory Stick or online. The tools allow creators to adapt their programs to the small screen.”
Mike Alcock from Atlantic Link is perhaps a bit too enthusiastic about the possibilities of this service. In their press release, he notes: “The potential applications for this technology are huge and almost mind-boggling. Tourist guides, language training, product training and updates, maintenance guides and training, medical training, interactive museum guides, schools training, the list is almost endless.”
It is so heartening to note that a few companies do think of expanding learning solutions to hitherto unthought-of venues like a hand-held gaming device. Who would have thought that it would even be an option? That triggers another thought train in our heads, by the way. If e-learning can be enabled on gaming devices, can gaming be made possible on any of the learning vehicles we use? Wouldn’t that be learning while having fun — either ways, learning while having fun is almost a reality thanks to Atlantic link.
