The latest addition to the well-known Tenchu series the ‘Time of Assassins’ puts together the finest elements of this classic game in a re-mastered version. In this version published by Sega the graphics and detailing have been enhanced and new features have been incorporated to engage you in long hours of stealthily ending your enemies.
This version has a more in-depth story and brings back the characters Rikimaru, Ayame, Rin, and Tessyu. As usual the game involves spying on enemies and killing them while they are unaware. Stealth maneuvers form the primary element of the Tenchu - Time of the Assassins PSP game. Icons on the screen light up to show you when an enemy is aware of your presence. The combat requires a high level of skill and responsiveness. Each of these characters has a unique storyline and each story has brand new levels and missions. The fifth new character needs to be unlocked through completion of certain levels. The most significant development is the option of playing for the rival side as Onkiage, the evil servant of Lord Mei-oh. It also features 50 independent campaigns that can be played after successfully completing the single player mode. It has the famous scene editor that allows you to create your own levels with a variety of enemies to combat. The co-operative and multiplayer modes allow you to play with other players through a wireless LAN or a USB cable.
The game developers should have focused on the camera work that seems shoddy at times. Apart from the area where the actual mission takes place most of the environment is completely lackluster and could have definitely used more detailing. Nonetheless the stealth combat that propelled the game to success is definitely engrossing while the game editor that enables you to create your own scenes is an exciting feature. Move through the murky shadows in the dead of the night and silently lay your enemies to rest in this PlayStation Portable game.

Tenchu: Shadow Assassins is an interesting game from the Tenchu series played from a third person perspective. Here, players play in the quiet shoes of two ninjas Ayame and Rikimaru. They serve their lord Gohda and carry out his not-so-straightforward orders. Going through dark environments and systematically eliminating guards, you carry out your Lord’s orders.
On the PSP, Tenchu is a straight forward reproduction of the Wii version. Here the only difference from the original Tenchu: Shadow Assassins Wii version is that the motion controls have been eliminated. As a player you either control Ayame or Rikimaru going through various missions allotted to you by your Lord Gohda. Apart from these story missions, you can also play the numerous short assignment missions. With these you have a chance to practice techniques and also learn how to break pace in the more complicated levels.
Controls are user friendly and standard with simple button presses. There is no need for any motion control here as the game is set on the roads. Left and right on the analog nub rotates the character and front and back moves them accordingly in that direction. For quick movement from one place to another, all you need to do is to press the L trigger and spring forward. Evasion is possible with the help of R trigger.
Tenchu: Shadow assassins come with a lot of bloodshed. Killings add a sense of excitement and thrill for the gamers. Story missions take you through feudal environments in Japan where you assassinate leaders. You navigate by rolling through bushes, sliding along walls and creeping under houses.
There is an element of frustration in the gameplay as you struggle through the first stages trying to get a grip on rolling techniques.
If you get caught once, your game is over. As a ninja, you can only dodge once and the second time gets you caught sending you back to the last checkpoint. Shadow Assassins is an exciting and wonderful game that has the potential to keep gamers hooked to their favourite PlayStation Portable for hours. Carry out your Lord’s missions or go on your own assignment missions and have endless hours of fun.

Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 2: The Phantom Fortress is the second game in the series for the PlayStation Portable. It is a casual fighting game. It may just as well be a revamped version of its predecessor, and while it still has its own share of problems, you’ll find Phantom Fortress to be more entertaining, and considerably longer.
For those who aren’t familiar with the series, here are the basics. Phantom Fortress, like it’s predecessor, works on two 2- dimensional planes, one with the foreground and one with the background environments. So even though the environments and characters are 3D, deep down, the game is still a 2D fighter.
The gameplay is relatively simple, as all attacks accessible with the circle button, and combos are executed with the added directional input, and maybe a couple more button presses. Standard to most Naruto titles, each character in Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 2 PSP has a Chakra bar, in addition to a health bar, which determines how many and what level of jutsus, or techniques, you can deploy. The player can also use items during fights.
The battles can be quite easy for most of the gaming enthusiasts who just want to have a good Naruto experience, as all attacks involve button bashing the circle button. However, one can get a lot more out of the game by actually using the items and advanced controls.
The story line has been extended a bit to do justice to the game’s title, by adding a new mode known as the Mugenjo mode. In this arc, Naruto is thrown into a fortress known, obviously, as the Phantom Fortress, which sucks life out of everything around it. Having that appear about the Hidden Leaf Village poses an obvious problem, so Naruto is faced with the task of getting rid of it.
The mode takes you back to the days of Dungeon crawling, moving your character’s icon between rooms, facing enemies and completing mini-games. A number of different scrolls activate different game types as well. There are tons of other goodies to unlock during the game, like artwork and songs and other stuff, making the games overall experience an enjoyable one.

N+ is an outstanding PSP game, which is not only enjoyable but also a great example of a game you can get right into. The instruction manual is also actually quite good at explaining the game’s rules, controls and features very elegantly, which is something of a rarity. This game is a successful and simple combination of jumping, running and wall-sliding, with controls that are easy to learn and use.
The included level editor is both powerful and intuitive. The player can now easily upload self created levels or browse, rate and play levels created by other users in just a few clicks. This system is so effective that it makes the game’s content and playing life grow exponentially.
N+ is a game which totally depends on seeing what you are doing. Multiple players can always team up and tackle the co-up levels or race against each other, but still it cannot be regarded as an absolute multiplayer game. This is due to the fact that there is an endless supply of solo levels, to make sure the game never gets old.
The player here assumes the role of a Ninja. The player’s jumping power, god-like-speed, reflexes and dexterity, are all due to the character’s amazingly fast metabolism; but sadly, he also has a short life span of only 1.5 minutes. Unlock another Ninja game like Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 2, the graphics are extremely basic, as is the gameplay. In this game the player has to unlock and find his way to the exit in the process of collecting gold bricks which are hidden in all the danger prone zones. The number of gold bricks collected help in increasing the time span.
It is not as simple as it sounds. The levels have a lot of hurdles in the form of mines, turrets, lasers and guards. Moreover, if the player hits the wall or ceiling in the process of running he automatically dies. The timer that ruthlessly counts down to zero makes the game extremely exciting, tense and fast-paced.
Regardless of your dodging power, jumping skills or platforming history, this game will surely keep you on your toes, regardless of where it is played. It is hard not to recommend either with a bare price of $19, its long replay value, and easy to get into gameplay.
