Review of the exciting Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 game from Konami

Posted on Feb 6, 2009 11:41:48 AM

Keeping up to the standards set by EA Sports has been an uphill task for Konami. On the portable front, however, the lower investment gives the Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 does have a chance.

One of the highlights of the PSP version of Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 is the Become a Legend mode. Apart from attractive changes in the presentation, this mode provides for better performance on the same lines as the Be a Pro mode in FIFA 09. In this mode, you can create a player from ground basics, assign him with attribute points and a position and start the process of building him up. Enhanced user interface includes assigning special skills to your footballer and an arrow that indicates positioning on the field. The whole process is lengthy enough to keep the player entertained.

There are certain issues with the camera performance. In the Become a Legend mode, camera is pretty close to action as compared to the console version. This makes it difficult to keep up wit the ball movement. Though the movement of the camera is quite effortless and fluid, it sometimes moves too fast making it disoriented and difficult for the player to keep up. For example, as you try taking a pass coming towards you up field, even before you turn, you find a defender you would not have expected to materialize and grab the ball from you. Should the game become too difficult for, which is unlikely, you can always have fun using the many cheat codes available.

In spite of the expected rigid movement of players, the action in Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 is solid enhanced by interesting environments and colours. For enthusiastic football fans, this game is entertaining and interesting. Wireless option supports multiplayer mode which is an exciting addition to the Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 hand held version.

Other interesting features include the list of cups, exhibition, the Master League where you can effectively control moves of your team, etc. Training mode however is very ineffective offering no training what so ever.

Though much can be improved in the game, Become a Legend mode and the wireless multiplayer online mode provides for excitement and entertainment for football enthusiasts.
