GripShift: Combines Puzzles and Racing on the PSP

Posted on Jan 15, 2009 03:34:10 PM

Developed by Sidhe Entertainment, the game of Gripshift combines both a driving and a puzzle game. Cars, which are the centre point of the game can be driven around tracks either racing or solving puzzles.

Users can pick a car from one of the designer racers. While the cars come with statistics, racers do not. The trick is in locating the car that can be handled well to give you a head start.

Beginner courses assist you in providing you with a general idea on the concept. From here you can move on to the challenge mode. As you race around on the tracks, you are required to clear the track in a given amount of time collecting stars that are scattered about. Unlocking course series and difficulty levels in Gripshift is only possible by collecting credits. As a player, you are required to fulfill objectives stipulated that are quite difficult and challenging before you are awarded credits.

Puzzles are cleverly designed and you have to be smart enough to achieve in the given time. However, car mechanics could have been better. Users feel there is not enough time to spend on solving the interesting puzzles as you spend all your energy trying to handle the car and keeping it racing on the track.

Turns have to be maneuvered with care and caution. Acceleration and braking is possible mid air and no amount of practice exactly perfects your technique of handling the car. As you race with other cars either in the challenge mode or the standard mode, there is a lot of excitement picking up weapons like TNT bombs, shields, missiles, etc. Here again, a lot of excitement is washed away trying to control the veering cars.

There are interesting mini games which are very enjoyable as they do not rely too much on controls. Fascinating games include the penguin bowling, playground, etc. With the help of the ad hoc multiplayer mode, you can race with at least four players. Another option is to indulge in a death match which is in fact more like a combat.

If you love racing and puzzles and do not mind a bit of haggling with the controls, then you can enjoy this game of GripShift on your favourite PSP.

Bust-A-Move Deluxe

Posted on Nov 24, 2008 10:10:24 AM

For a particular category of gamers, who could not digest the incredibly fictitious genre of games, settle with games that puzzle them. These games could tweak your brain like never before and would drive you harder to sit with it. Puzzle games have gained prominence among people for centuries. It may be because they offer real time situations, and getting out of the complex loop gives a great feeling to the players by the end of the game.

The Bust-A-Move, popularly known as BaM, is a puzzle game, where the players can use the orbs located at the bottom of the screen and launch them to clear the bubbles. Bubbles are multi colored and as you launch the orbs you have to try and match at least three colors. As the game advances, the bubbles will slowly be forced down towards the deadline. If the bubbles cross the deadline, the game is over. BaM offers almost 300 puzzles in the classic mode and there are several other modes available in the game.

The most exciting of the modes is the ghost mode, where the bubble bounces off a wall before it sticks to another orb. On its way to the wall, if there are any objects hindering its progress, the bubble passes through them. In Bust-A-Move players have to think in advance to plan on what kind of shots they have to use. There is a heart-meter than increases once you fail to clear a set of bubbles. When the heart-meter reaches five notches, the game ends.

The Bust-A-Move Deluxe features colorful graphics that look nice on the PSP’s wide screen, and the bright color combination is one of the attractive features of the game. However, it would have been nice if there were different themes as the game progresses with the puzzles. The players who have experienced the game earlier in the other gaming consoles feel to be missing the classic BaM music in the PSP version. But the music in the PSP version is not bad either. On the whole the Bust-A-Move Deluxe is a convincing puzzle game with innovative features and seriously challenging puzzles. With all these exciting elements, it is one game worth playing.

Bliss Island now on the PSP

Posted on Nov 20, 2008 02:49:01 PM

The ‘Bliss Island’ is a game from Codemasters released for the Xbox, PSP, PC and Nintendo. The game sounds quite blissful by its title, but in reality there is nothing like that in the game. It is a quite dull game which does not provide the necessary fun and excitement. The plot of the game does not demand any hard work from the player. There is no necessity for application of logical reasoning or complex calculations. This is a simple game that has not been expressed properly.

This is a single player game, and is categorized as ‘adventure‘. The game takes the players through a series of adventures through a handful of mini games. These mini games are further broken down into many stages. The mini games include dull versions of most of the free games available over the web. The games in Bliss Island are complete with a text introduction and some fireworks at the end of each of the three levels of difficulty. These mini games could also be individually tackled in a challenge mode.

The only character that creates a connection between these mini games is called ‘Zwooph’. It is a mythical creature, which shoots puffs of air to make clouds. Each mini game in the series makes use of this air jet concept and some physics to create puzzles and basic gameplay. Out of all the mini games, it is the ‘Cave Adventures’ that could be much appealing to the players. It is in fact more similar to the famous ‘helicopter flash game’, but it is the only bright spot in the Bliss Island.

The graphics that are used for the action sequences and the menus are not attractive. The textures used in the game are of low resolution and fails to provide the HD quality. It is made clear that Bliss Island was targeting the casual market with its simple design and bright visuals. With mini games such as the Soccer, a brick invaders game and a race to collect fruit, Bliss Island could be considered as a collection of simple games assembled together by a character.

Let’s Solve Puzzles in the Capcom World

Posted on Oct 22, 2008 02:01:45 PM

In an attempt to provide an interesting puzzle game, Capcom has gifted a wonderful piece of work to the PSP. Capcom’s combined efforts with the developer Sensory Sweep have given us a great puzzle game that includes a set of five.

The Capcom Puzzle World is basically a set of fighter games, full of adventure and thrill. Along with the Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, the set also includes the two new modes that make it even more entertaining. Basically designed for fun-loving gamers, Capcom Puzzle World (PSP) allows players to create different patterns, like custom attacks, along with controlling the characters or rather fighters.

The game offers an option of personalized content and a screenshot mode, giving it more exceptional features. You can also unlock bonus content, as well as customize the Buster Bros. collection. Moreover, it is the first PSP game that allows you to take snap shots at any moment by stopping the game in between. Then there is ‘Block Block’ that is an all new concept for a block genre.

However, the key differences between the previous modes and the Capcom Puzzle World are evident. Buster Buddies launches ultimate characters while the Super Buster Bros. The game introduces a long-lasting panic mode as well. The challenging games are altered to fit the PSP screens. The music is also very catchy and leaves no room for boredom, but rather completely captures your attention in managing the awesome creatures while solving puzzles.

The Super Puzzle Fighter II version is especially appealing to the American fans with its alternate modes and special orbs. This makes it a fun to clear the gems and win more points. Nevertheless, you don’t get to directly control the super fighter, as they act appropriately in following your puzzle actions. It is also worth considering that the fighters selected by you will have a direct impact on the colors of the counter gems.

Try your hands on the game to see how well you can apply your brains in navigating through the Capcom world.

Some Public Reviews on PSP Games, it’s Great to Hear from You!

Posted on Apr 24, 2008 03:27:40 PM

A puzzle game is a game which is a good brain game too! Very popular with the kids and even with grown ups. It has some of the cool exciting features which we must go through:-

The PSP ‘Puzzle Guzzle’ is a game consisting of all different shapes like a triangle or a parallelogram where these shapes are rotated in different manners and combinations. Definitely it’s a one of a kind in the category that already existed but adds a lot of excitement when playing with these shapes.

We have the option of three game play options like dropping puzzles, stuffit puzzles and quizzing puzzles. If you are going for a solo drop puzzle option then be careful as the pieces fall from the top of the screen very briskly, quicker than you can manage. You really have to be on your toes and manage with dexterity.

In a challenge drop puzzle we can defeat an opponent by just clearing our own blocks and dropping special blocks on their sides. All one needs to know is the technique and be smart enough to use ones mental abilities!

In stuffit puzzle we can hijack our opponent’s big shapes so as to attain a high score. And if you are adventurous then you can have many other options and puzzles to guzzle with. Among these three modes the quizzing of puzzles is the most exciting!

Irrespective of the modes, the controls rarely change like the D pad selects a falling block. One button goes clockwise while the other goes anticlockwise. The fiddly part is that each block has a shape and that is difficult to manage. The basic idea behind the game is to spin the shapes around so that they are joined to form a larger one.

You just can’t get bored with the wide range available. There are an amazing 300 with more in the pipeline!.
