Is PSP 3000 really low on Battery Life?

Posted on Sep 12, 2008 07:15:21 AM

Since the Sony has announced the next version of its PSP console, the PSP 3000, there has been a lot of controversy regarding its performance and capabilities. There is no doubt the new PSP 3000 has a great screen resolution with anti-glare technology and it supports non progressive, non-HD televisions as well, but when it comes to battery life, questions arise whether its worth purchasing or not. This confusion arose because of the two contradictory statements made by John Koller himself, who is the Director of Hardware Marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment, America.

Initially, Koller said that as the PSP 3000 has an enhanced LCD display in terms of resolution, brightness, contrast and color, it is natural that it will drain out the battery more quickly. According to him the new and enhanced features of PSP 3000 need more battery power than the old PSP Slim n Lite. However, this seems to be logical also. If the PSP fans want something better then they have to bear some additional costs. That may be in the form of the console’s price or battery consumption. If this is the case, then it might make purchasing accessories to increase the battery life, like the Trust PSP Battery Pack, a good idea. According to Koller, the battery life of the new PSP will go down by half an hour. He said that, “There’s a little bit of a larger power draw with the brighter screen. The battery that comes with the PSP-3000 will last about three-and-a-half to four hours.”

But now he is admitting that the Sony’s engineers in Japan are working on this issue and will optimize the battery of the PSP 3000 so that it gives the same amount of entertainment juice as the old PSP. According to his new statement, the PSP 3000 will last for four to six hours while playing games on it and four to five hours if used for watching UMD movies. Still some people say that it is impossible for the gadget to have the same amount of stamina without compromising the display quality. Whether the new PSP’s battery will be a problem or not, remains to be seen.
