If you love dragons, then you are in for some excitement and fun with the PSP’s Dragoneer’s Aria. It is even better if you love the grind. This game features you as Valen, a student who is attacked by a black dragon cutting short his graduation. This mean dragon has come into the world to destroy all the good dragons, which help to keep the world in balance.
Valen is on his way to protect and fight on behalf of the good dragons and he leaves Granadis for this purposeful meeting, while taking along a few friends on the way. With characters like Euphe who is too sweet to be true, Ruslan who is a good man posing as the bad and Mary an interesting pirate, the plot takes you through various exciting and awesome twists and turns.
Eagles and ravens provide more excitement. You go through exciting dungeons where you bump into challenging enemies. You have to effectively grind your way through the game.
Another exciting feature is the ‘Avatar’, which can be collected on your way. When you collect ten of these, you can actually summon the soul of an avatar for battle. Lusces are spells of Dragoneers Aria (PSP). Lusces can be switched between characters and the challenge is to equip them with spells depending on the number of accessory slots available.
Each character’s lusces are used separately and therefore they can be effectively leveled up. With efficient attacks you have the option of filling your energy bar. Excitement continues as you collect superpower spells from elemental dragons. These are known as the dragon skills and are found attached to dragon orbs.
The challenge is introduced in the form of balancing your energy. Guarding is a feature, which allows you to gain energy by matching blue crystals arranged in a circle to an icon, which is spinning.
The game takes you through some cityscapes, which are towering and awesome. With sound effects that match the impressive graphics and fun features, you can spend hours of truly exciting moments as Valen out to destroy the bad black dragon.
It is dragons and dragons all the way. Go on and have some super charged excitement by saving the good dragons.

Do you remember the classic Generation of Chaos games for the PS2? Well, like most good games on the PS2, these ones have made their way to the PSP in the form of Aedis Eclips: Generation of Chaos.
The series successor seems to be just as exhilarating and exciting as its predecessor. Generation of Chaos Aedis Eclipse is also a strategic turn based title with role playing trappings. The most shattering part of the title is the involvement of three distinct stories that take place in different planes of existence, namely, the lower world (Greekland), the surface world (Aedis) and the celestial world (Galadia). The player is fully authorized to be any of the existing planes but beginning players will have an easier time in the lower world.
The title’s gameplay is actually quite predictable, as it also includes that clichéd RPG formula featuring a kingdom at war, sassy teens rescuing the world and combat using magic and technology. The plot and storyline in the game, also known as Generation of Chaos IV (PSP), are purely original, though there are obvious references and similarities with the prequels. The gameplay takes place on a segmented map dotted with structures, monster encounters and a variety of fortifications. As with any other action packed strategic title, the ultimate goal is to devastate your foe’s headquarters, while defending yourself. Before you begin combat you need to select a commander who will accompany you there. The largest map will take hours to complete, since you will be required to capture most of the grid and invade your enemy’s headquarters before claiming your reward. The game’s presentation and interface is admittedly somewhat convoluted, but fortunately it does not get in the way of the gameplay too much. Overall, it is a quality strategy title and a worthy successor to the successful series.

As a charming RPG, Popolocrois is a game to be enjoyed by all and at all times. Published by Agetec and developed by G-Artists, this adventure game is based on a funny and wacky theme. The great art work and amiable characters that make up the simple gameplay are quite welcoming. You can also call this PSP game an interesting amalgamation of two previous games in the series.
The story revolves around the 10-year old Prince Pietro, whose adventure is aimed at releasing his mother from an evil spell. This spell has sent his mother to a state of eternal sleep. In his quest to bring back his mother, the brave little prince comes across a witch called Narcia, along with some other folks. Jointly, these people make a team to fight hurdles in the form of hazardous creatures they encounter on their journey. In the beginning of the game Pietro is only 10, but by the end of the game, he turns 15. Now, the Prince needs to defeat an ominous demon to free his mother, whose soul is shut in a dark world. This was all about the first half of Popolocrois (PSP). The second half features a 15 year old Pietro, struggling to save his father from the evil brute that is a great threat to the entire kingdom. The simple and smooth flow of the game allows you to play the game over a longer period, say a week or even a month. The gameplay is equally simple: first initiating missions and then working for their achievement.
The delightful presentation of the game offers the feel of going through a children’s story book. It is a perfect game for anyone wishing to enter the RPG world, on account of its uncomplicated and interactive mode. Apart from the audio portion, the sound is also pretty commendable, and it compliments the overall effect of Pietro’s story. The game proves that simplicity blended with wit can do wonders.

If you are a gamer with a taste for pleasant role-playing games, then you will surely like Riviera: The Promised Land. The game is an advanced version of the one released for Game Boy Advance in 2005 under the same title. The likeable characters and extravagant background art increase the charms of this game published by Atlus. You will find this WonderSwan color game much different from all the other demon and angel struggles, which are a popular part of the gaming universe.
Riviera is the paradise land and source of struggle in the story. Two warriors named Ledah and Ecthel are basically involved in the quest of determining Riviera’s future. However, the gamers have to play as an Angel named Ein. The refined and more colorful graphics, along with the sound effects, are among the most outstanding enhancements of this game over the original. The complete voice support in English and Japanese make the game rocking. Although Riviera on the GBA was quite eye-catching, its latest graphics are far better and truly marvelous. You will enjoy navigating through the castles and dark forests with the shimmering lights and dull colors. It will actually give you a feel of the reality, which is impressive for a handheld game.
The story centers on the angel, who gets into a fight with his old friends. Ein is always accompanied by different female companions while traveling. All the characters and dialogues in Riviera - The Promised Land (PSP) are well-written, making the game highly engrossing. You can either choose the look mode or the move mode depending on your tastes. Among the two, the look mode will allow you to interact with new characters and objects. On the other hand, in the move mode you have to decide upon the direction in which you want the team to head.
String has particularly developed the Promised Land with the goal of making a mark. The adorable graphics, and great storyline accompanied by accurate sounds promise an exceptional RPG experience.

Originally a Game Boy Advance game, Yggdra Union is a new game for the PSP. It is an interesting game with lots of complexity and playability, which will grab your attention for at least a pretty long time. Based on the same features, you can call it a new, more polished version of the two-year-old game.
In addition to pleasant graphics and impressive audio, the Yggdra Union also involves some really engrossing gameplay. The voice acting in the game is outstanding, and really helps you immerse yourself more in the story. All the major story sequences have an audio base in English as well as Japanese. This is great for enhancing the plot and making the gameplay much more enchanting. Although the story is a bit lengthier than the original Gameboy Advance one, you will find no time to think in between the game’s consecutive twists. The introduction of new characters and interesting plots was designed to, and has succeeded in, keeping boredom at bay.
The story is based on the princess Yggdra’s efforts to reunite her descended world. As a role-playing game, the player enters the shoes of the young princess and forms a team of brave folks. You and your companions have to fight all those dark foes that frequently obstruct your way. To support your mission, there is a great device in the form of a “holy sword”, promising to punish all those who have harmed your natives. The sword guides you towards your destination. On your part, you need to answer some questions about the sword’s specialty and also about your insight vision. The turn-based battles are simple, but really helpful in maintaining the game’s flow.
The intervals provided in battle are also a great time to plan strategy and get ahead. You are also provided with a preparation time before jumping in the battlefield, the most important aspect of which is creating unions. Altogether, the game is quite interesting and a fun to play. Even if you played the original game, this one a worth a look, since it redefines so many of the original elements in Yggdra.

A game that has withstood the taste of time and is still shining in its full glow is none other then the Final Fantasy series. It really stands apart from all the junk you usually come across and has captivated hordes of gamers from the time it was first launched. The latest episode in this brilliant series is Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions which has done full justice to its predecessors. What sets the game apart from the pretenders is its strong story line, coupled with even more impressive gameplay. You can look forward to some new additions and subtle enhancements in this port, including some terrific cutscenes, new character classes, and new playable characters. The two new characters, Onion Knight and Dark Knight have added a new dimension to an already interesting game.
The complex and moving story line, that maintains the excitement and romance element throughout the title, is one of the many strengths of this endearing game. You will also be happy to know that the somewhat awkward localization of the original game has been replaced with a realistic dialogue devoid of grammatical errors. To add to that the cutscenes are carefully tailored to depict the action that is going on.
It is, however, interesting to note that if you happen to be a new to this game, it will take some time and grinding on your part before you’ll really involved in it. But once you get involved, the appeal of Final Fantasy: The War of the Lions (PSP) is such that that time will just fly without you even realizing it. Your excitement will be at its peak once the real battle starts. Your on-screen protagonist takes part in battles that are truly intense and engaging; and keeps gaining experience with each comprehensive win. This experience plays a pivotal role in the character’s development and bestows him with new abilities that are essential to progress through the difficult but challenging levels.

Star Ocean: First Departure is an interesting game where you are assigned the responsibility of protecting a small town on the planet Roak. The game surrounds three friends, Roddick Farrence, Millie Chliette, and Dorne Murtough who are shown patrolling the small town of Kratus in the opening sequence set in space. The game literally takes off when a group of bandits invade the town and you have to guide the trio in fending off the culprits. What keeps you engaged in this adventure is that it does not reveal too much of the plot in the beginning; thereby keeping you engrossed in the story throughout the game. Since you never know what will happen next, the game is really a test of your resourcefulness and ingenuity.
Combat is relatively quick, usually barely lasting longer than a minute, and occurs in real-time. The fact that battles are fought randomly in 3D battlefields also adds to the overall gameplay and excitement. The combat in the PSP version is very similar to the Star Ocean - Till the End of Time (PS2) PlayStation 2 title. It is, however, interesting to note that you can have full control over only one character with the option of switching to any character in your party during combat. You can unleash powerful attacks on the enemy by earning special abilities through the L and R buttons. Moreover, when not in combat mood, you can plan your party’s strategy using the menu, adding even more depth to the game. It allows you to take an aggressive, or defensive, or a spread out posture, depending on what the situation warrants.
While you are exploring and defending the town there is a map that constantly guides you through its different parts. But you have to do without it while crawling through the dungeons. This is actually somewhat of a benefit though, since it forces you to explore more.

Ape Quest is a combination of a mini game with some added RPG elements. An RPG (Role Playing Game) is a game where the player takes the role of the character. The gamer only decides on the actions of their characters. Role playing games are quite interactive, exciting and of course popular.
The game is based on the story where the king of Toqsica sends the prince to visit the place in which the seal that seizes the Apetron, a group of vicious and terrifying apes, is located. The respected knight D’ Apetagnan accompanies the prince as well. However, the prince impulsively eats the banana shaped seal, again giving the Apetron free access to the kingdom. The prince then has to save his kingdom from this curse.
In this game the gamer plays the role of the prince. The player has to meet up with the group of traveling merchants and adventurers who will become the warriors of the Ape Team. The player will also have to fight monsters and undertake a lot of quests by exploring dungeons. The player will have to plan all routes or paths to be taken very carefully, because once taken, the player can neither stop in between nor can he change the path.
The game is all about destroying various monsters throughout the story. These can be anything from lions, wolves, crabs, snakes and other creatures. They can erupt any time along the path to distract and trouble the prince. The player has to destroy these opponents, thereby earning points, also referred as chips, which are of great help later on in the game. While hardly of the caliber of RPGs like Final Fantasy Tactics Advance or Elder Scrolls Travels, this RPG nonetheless offers a rather enjoyable, albeit generic, gaming experience.

Strategic role playing games have already made their mark in the gaming world. The titles of this genre only continue to grow. Another recent addition to this genre for the PSP is game called WILD ARMs XF. The developer of the title is none other than Media Vision which has successfully and creatively maintained the Wild West theme.
The title revolves round the heroine Clarissa Arwin and her brother Felius. Clarissa Arwin ventures with her brother to the kingdom of Elesius, which is the only remaining heaven in the world of Filgaia. Signature role-playing elements like slaying foes or reaching a destination after passing through tough scenario are naturally included in this title.
One of the distinctive elements in this title is the six-sided movement tiles. If you remember Final Fantasy Tactics, then you remember the square tiles it offered that were unfortunately not all that impressive. When you successfully surround the opponents, the hexagonal tiles allow you to perform formation arts. With the help of this your attack damage will increase until you’re appropriately positioned.
Wild ARMs XF has 16 base jobs which are featured in a novel class system and give it an edge over other titles, such as the one track Dungeon Siege - Throne of Agony (PSP) game, of the same genre. Equipment and gear is a significant part of the game, and one has to be careful to remember to re-equip when switching classes; as switching classes automatically makes your character un-equip. The weigh of your equipment can also affect your character. If the VP reaches zero when playing, then the health points of your army will shrink to one. Wild ARMs XF’s dialogues are totally cliché, and accompanied by rather lame cut scenes, which is essentially the most uninteresting aspect of the game. If you are a fan of RPGs, and strategic RPGs in particular, then this one is definitely worth a shot.

Games are one thing, but the in built capability of the game to provide you with your sense of adventure is something not many games can give you. More often than not, we are stuck with the same arcade type of games where you run a course charted out by the computer, but how would you like it if you were to set the course and the pace of the game? You decide how you want to play and what course you walk to pick.
These types of games have been hugely popular on the other non-handheld consoles like PC games, Xbox and PS X – remember Half-life Series? But those are big consoles. How would you like it on your PSP? Now, we are talking! From the innate ability to lead the way, most of us get a sense of control, adventure.
When Systemsoft came up with the World War 2, we thought that is what they would set out to do. However, they doled out a superb RPG that seems to be defying their pre-established reputation. They are not busy tweaking out their all new RPG named Shooting Nan Og, which revels in the backdrop of Irish Mythology ( how’s that for a change!)
The game is expected to be quite a straightforward one and would come with all sorts of typical warfare elements — armor, knights, swords, dragons … the works. But here’s the quirky thing – you get to choose your own adventure in the game and that means unlimited scope for entertainment and adventure – simply because the games takes a fresh course depending on your inputs and choices, isn’t that awesome?
We have a feeling that it would operate and chalk out just like the legendary Tactics Ogre.
