Silent Hill stalks its way onto the PSP

Posted on Sep 30, 2008 02:48:09 PM

The name Silent Hill depicts a foggy town, walls dripping with blood and cryptic dialogues. Yes, it include all of these aspects. The horror game relies on a franchise hallmark that is already eight years old. This Silent Hill PSP version contains many similarities with previous titles, but still manages to deliver a largely scary and haunting adventure.

In this version you’ll roam and run across the town as Travis Grady. You’ll surely be reminded of previous Silent Hill titles with the murky atmosphere and mysterious dialogue. In fact, the handheld version relies heavily on nostalgia from previous games, and does little to innovate the true and tried Silent Hill formula. While playing the game in the middle of the town as Travis, you should be careful to avoid hitting the little girl. If you have tried other Silent Hill games then you can easily predict who she might be. The plot actually lacks some sense because no reason is given for why Travis even visited Silent Hill to begin with.

This amended version actually fills in missing pieces to the series lore as you’ll get a chance to explore a few familiar locations. From a third person’s view you’ll be able to check out Travis in the town between destinations. Silent Hill: Origins (PSP) engages you in solving puzzles which are further entangled in other puzzles. Your random encounters with strange characters are not as scary as it would have been on a large television screen in a dark room, but nonetheless as scary as it gets for a handheld game. You’ll definitely enjoy your encounter with monstrous oddities some new and some familiar.

Of course, what would the horror game be without its combat element? The Melee is as disappointing as it was in previous titles; full of blood and screams but with the same monotony. In other additional combat scenes you will have the added pleasure of using melee weapons. To bash you enemies you can grab the television, radio or hospital stand. Silent Hill fans might want to check this one out, even though the series is much better on actual game consoles.
