When Soul Calibur was released by Namco on arcade systems it didn’t fare very well. But as soon as it was grabbed by Sega for the Dreamcast it instantly became a rage. Originally known as Soul Edge this game transformed itself constantly with upgraded graphics and better features. The combat based game caught the imagination of a million strong fan base and catapulted to dizzying heights and found itself among the top ten games of all time. This franchise was responsible for the revolutionary 8 way run mode of the characters that gave the players more freedom unlike the earlier 3D games.
With a history like this it was extremely disappointing that this game didn’t have a PSP version. But that is all set to change as Namco Bandai the developers of this highly successful franchise stated that they would be launching the PSP version titled Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny later during the summer. This announcement came moments after the news about launching Tekken 6. The game trailer of Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny was extremely impressive and though it looks like SC IV the detailing and graphics are absolutely incredible. It seems as though the game has been built on a sort of a super FX chip. The stunning visuals of the game are definitely going to leave players spellbound. It will feature characters from the earlier versions like Taki, Tira, Mitsurugi, Cassandra, Ivy, Hilde, Voldo and Siegfried. Some new characters have been added like the sly looking moustached Dampierre. It will incorporate new tutorials for beginners with more than 80 exercise missions to perfect your fighting capabilities. New lighting effects and the epic background music put in the game are fantastic.
Considering the amazing features and the rich detailing maybe the wait for the PlayStation Portable version will be well worth it.
